Shawnee state park fish in July 26 and 27th for carp

Myself and my friend Carl are having a carp fish in july 26th and 27th at the colvin boat launch area from sunrise till sunset on both days. Its catch and release and a lot of people will be in attendance so this will be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to give carping a try. I will have extra bait so if you need some just ask.

If you need any directions just let me know and I will be bring a few cases of soda and water so if you come please bring a cooler because it will be a hot one and i don't think the drinks will last very long so please bring some also for yourselves. The forecast is looking hot and no rain. There isn't a whole lot of shade either.

Most carp are in the 8-15lb range but some have been caught up to 25lbs already with a 20+ a few weeks ago.

This is mainly a get together to have a good time and bs about carp fishing and learn a few things from one another.ANy questions feel free to ask.

why on earth is it catch and release,,give them to a farmer or something that place is soooo overrun with carp its sad. The lake itself is turning into a shadow of itself and alll thats in there is carp and pint sized bullheads. Please do everyone a favor and keep them all,,,even if you have to feed the birds and racoons.

Us carpers are too ****ed lazy to be bothered.  We rip 'em, torture 'em for how ever long it takes us to land 'em and then let 'em go to be tortured or whatever again in the future.  Much easier to just release 'em.

Well maybe if ya show up at Shawnee with the means to collect and transport the carp for "feed" to the "farmers" or "something", some of the carpers might toss some of the smaller carp(under 10 lbs.) your way.  Or better yet, maybe sell them to ya----how much is a pound of carp going fer these days?  I wouldn't hold my breath tho.

I would think that why there is so many carp around is because carp don't swallow the hook and there for we carp fishermen don't have to dig the hook out of them and see them bleeding all over the place then throw it back in and say i don't have to count that one and watch it belly up and die and then go on fishing as thow nothing ever happend.Cat fish are one of the worst fish out there for swallowing the hooks trout also so when thy swallow the hooks why don't you take them home and fertilize the garden.    ( YOU WANT TO KILL ONE THAT IS GOING TO LIVE AND THROW ONE BACK IN THAT IS GOING TO DIE )

Did you do more advertising than this for your carp tournament?  Hard to believe there will be a big turn out.  I would be afraid to throw out into that lake for fear of what may stick to my line when I reel in.  Free refreshments and bait sound great, just so you bury all the carp you catch somewhere in the many crops of bedford county.  Except the carp fishing, that place stinks (really).  They destroyed that lake and now it's loaded with carp and those worthless gizzard shad.

Yep, I figured the critters, like people would prefer better eatin' fish like trout, bass, walleye, so if any those little nuisance type fish get caught during this fish-in, maybe they should be "banked" and feed to the critters or even to the plants.  Why feed the critters a fish that tastes like crap, errr, I mean carp.

What the???  When did carpers become fertilizer specialists?

This event has been posted on various fishing forums and I'm sure they have advertised it more in the local area of the lake.  It's not really a tournament, but a fish-in----a get-together to have some fun rippin' carp.  It's not a fertilizer convention.  Should be fun since it's loaded with carp.  I believe they are expecting a pretty good turn out with a PFBC commissioner being in attendance, I think, with some of his flyfishing buddies.

Hey bw, I hope yinz guys try and keep track of how many total pounds of fertilizer yinz release back into the lake this weekend.

I fished from 7 - 4 on Saturday and managed 11 carp, with my biggest a few ounces over 17 lbs.  We had a pretty good turnout, though the fishing was a bit slower than normal for Shawnee.  The action was picking up when I left at 4 as I helped a few of the guys who came from eastern PA land three fish within just a few minutes.  I'll let Brian post up a full report after today...seemed like everyone had a good time.

I don't mean to offend any carp fisherman out there, but those pictures are depressing.  Dirty, weedless, dead lake where only carp can survive.  Let's hope the pfbc, the park, the state, and the additional help they said they would get will help get that lake back to where it was.  What a disaster!

No offense taken here at all. There are still pike to be caught. The one day fishing I watched a guy get one about every hour or so but judging by how many used to be caught thats bad.Do guys even catch bass there anymore?. I do agree its not what it used to be but I spoke to the biologist after the event and while we were fishing we discovered two very nice weedbeds about 50-60 yards out so it appears the nitrate they put in has sparked some plant life. Also the one area has shown a lot of silt also. I know its going to take quite some time for it to grow back and get the fish healthier but at least its a start to some imrpovement. The clarity even though still brown has cleared a touch in a few spots.
