Dream Trip

My Dad is taking me on the fishing trip of my choice for my birthday next year, and I can't decide where I want to go or what I want to fish for. I want to go somewhere that is remote and beautiful, somewhere that is a "once in a lifetime" kind of place. Does anybody have any suggestions on places, outfitters, species to go after, or anything else?

i think you need to give us some guidelines, at least price range, location ( mexico and s. america or alaska are these possible) also what type of fishing do you like, flyfishing, blue water trolling, casting for muskies. etc.  to many variations.

I always thought that catching a Rooster fish would be fun.  The Pacific Coast of Costa Rica or Mexico, would be great.  I'm sure you could hook up a deep sea package with that too.

If you're talking any price, might as well get some strippers to come along...

    matt,
Newfoundland, or any of the maritime provences for differing salmanoid types, to include brookies and atlantic salmon.   Alaska for >  just about anything esp salmon and lake trout.  Halibut is also good.  Or a little know trip:  Fishing the Colorado River below hoover dam.  There are some rainbow trout in there that will break your arm.  There's one outfitter who will package a 6-7 day float/camp trip down the canyon.  You will see wildlife you've never seen before and the fishing is spectacular!  IF you get a good "fishing" guide.  Many of the guide services you may hire are mostly interested in sightseeing so ask many questions.  As a side light you can visit VEGAS BABY! before your trip and after to experience some other types of "wild life".  Tell us what you eventually choose.
BTW a great person to ask is formerguide.

salt fishing at the sea of cortez, the water between mexico and baja.  they have trips where you stay on a large boat and take pangas out each day to fish.  you can fish for tuna, sailfish, roosters, tarpon, everything  also along that note costa rica, untapped salt fishing.  then there is alaska. enough said.  a float trip down the snake river or yellowstone or big hole or madison or any major river out west would be quite an adventure.  fly in trip to northern canada for big northern and laketrout and some fine char fishing too.  the amazon basin for peacock bass, paca and the biggest catfish you can catch up to 10 feet.  i liked the kamchatka idea, heard and read great things about it.  new zealand has hugh trout.  giant brookies in labrador.  bassin' at lake salto in mexico, almost guarantied a 10+ lber.  stipper fishing at montouk, NY in the fall.  flats fishing for big reds and sea trout in the biloxi flats of LA/MS.  tarpon out of boca grande FL.  dry tortugas, FL, all kinds of salt fishing.

Chasing Giant Bonefish and Massive Trevale in the surf of the Indian Ocean.  Perhaps going after Dorado in Argentina.  Trout in Chile or Labrador.  Taimen in Mongolia.  Nile Perch at the Aswan Dam.  Roosters off the coast of Costa Rica.  just to name a few.

The Kenai peninsula would be awesome, but my personal dream has always been to cast a line in the sacred waters of the pool at the playboy mansion.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

the kenai can get crowded because it has the name.  think 1st day of trout on the name waters.  there are places just as good but with less name recognition and a little harder to get to.  do some research and get away from the crowds.  good luck, have fun

If some of the more Exotic locations are a little too pricey, I'd go for a 3-5 day package trip to either Venice, LA or Islamorada, FL to fish inshore, nearshore and offshore saltwater.  Both locations have great fishing.  You will be more "comfortable" in FL but LA probably has better fishing and is more of an adventure.

Look at some of the area of south east alaska. There is a marine ferry system thats out of bellingham wa.. You board the ship at bellingham and there are stops along the way. The cost is reasonable, and the first leg is about 24 hrs. This will give you the time to bs w/ your dad and spend quality time.

At each one of the cities along the way there is fishing from ocean, river to lake. In a weeks time you could see the better part of the s.e. alaska. You will have to have a set time of off the ship for a few days and back on to the next stop. They need to know this for total passenger count. My wife and i did this a few yrs ago and had a great time. If you would like you could then fly from sitka to anchorage and fish the salmon in town for a day or two.

    Heres a link http://www.akms.com/ferry/

    No Mingo Creek?

You're not a fan of suburban, county park trickles, full of silt and trash?

If I had to remove Mingo, I would add Labrador.

Well at least at the stop sign hole with everybody speaking Russian or some other slovak tongue, you could pretend you were in Europe.
