How much did your year cost?

Gentlemen,
Just because I have too much time on my mind I decided to tally up an approximation of all of my expenses chasing "steel"  since the start of the season last year.  I was stunned.
Now I realize that since I live over 500 miles away, and I like to stay in nice hotels my expenses are a "Leeetlle Bit High" but Holy Cow!.

Check this out:   7 trips from home to erie @ 500 miles one way at 20 mpg. Plus about 200 miles running around in erie each trip is about
       1470 dollars for fuel.

   21 Nights in better motels @ 150/night.
       3,150 dollars for lodging

21 days food while in Erie  @ 30/day  (cheap)
       630 bucks

The two new rods, 1 pair of waders, 1 vest, two reels, 100 flies, two lines and 4 licenses that I just HAD to have.

     close to 1,000 bucks

Being outfished by T.T, Bughawk, Skip and just about everyone else on this board and getting to meet new and old friends.

       PRICELESS!

I did catch 1 steelhead, and 1 trophy Brown trout!

    How was YOUR year?

    Indy,

It was awesome.  Any time I get a chance to fish with Can Man, Spoon, Pt, Al, Fsihin Coyote, Kevin Uppyours)Stillhead (even if he cannot spell), Doug, and jr - there is no price too high to pay.

What I would give to go out on the lake with Captain Personality one more time.   Tomarrow marks 2 years since his passing.   A tear is forming in my eye even as I write this.

I think you hit it right on the money with the priceless tag.

With the folks retired and having built a house in Erie Co. things are always good.
Room at the folks house ---- $0
Moms home cook meals  ---- $0
    Gas driving 112 miles @ 30mpg most every weekend --- ?
The only thing that stops me is overtime on Saturday. So with all the freebies, no matter the price of gas, ect. I'll be around.

I only made it out to Erie once this year, and traveled with three others so it was very inexspensive.
    50$ for gas
    25$ for room
    30$ for food
Tied all my own flies and did not have to purchase new equipement.

    Gentlemen,
Well it sems that I am not the only one who spends a leeetle to much to fish each year.  But I still have to say that almost all the trips have been well worth it.  Especially the ones with my grandson, who by the way, outfished grandpa on the cumberland  , , , , , AGAIN!

About 100 Calories/per "trip" to walk down to elk (less if I bike, but the whole snow thing throws that off)  x   40 "trips"  =   4000 Calories.  So, a box of twinkies should replenish those calories, which puts my total cost at around $3.....

...Well that's not totally true I guess.  About $100 in tippet and leaders, another $100 in tying supplies, and maybe $50 in indies and split shot....

And I thought I had it easy. OK, next fall, getting a bike. If gas gets
to 10 bucks a gallon, even my 2 to 12 mile trips up and down East Lake Rd. are going to be expensive.

Its scary to think about how much fishing costs anymore.  I don't even want to think about what the muskie and walleye fishing trips are going to cost me this year!  I think I'm going to have to look for another job just to pay for my fishing trips!  Then again, I might not have the time!!!

wow there is a lot of moolah being spent to chase these steel?!!!!
I drive from the burgh in a little honda civic.  Round trip prbably costs 30 bucks with gas, a meal and supplies.  I made 3 trips, so 90-100 bucks.

I never add it up for fear of having a heart attack, or inadvertently leaving the total somewhere where my wife could see it. But, I'd guess between gear (most at cost) and extensive travel, I'm in the $25K range for the year- much of which was not my money, mind you...

Hmm, only went a handful of times, at roughly $40-$50 in gas, $15 at Avonia, $10 at Sheetz for breakfast...  Maybe $300 tops.  Pretty much a down year for me though.  Between starting a new job and having school every Saturday, that killed my season pretty well...

Don't even worry about the money anymore,if I did i would not fish.I did put 12,000 miles on a brand new truck between Nov.& Mar. chasing steel between 4 states, that number is scarry enough.Every day was well worth it,met alot of great people last year and had alot of laughs fishing, to me that is priceless.Although with the rise in fuel costs,i can see some of those out of state trips disapearing.

I couldn't even guess...I forget how many suicide runs I made up to Oswego/ SR at $75 a pop in gas....flies, new fly rod, new spinnin rod, ect ect....If I had to guess I'd say somewhere around $2-3k but the memories will last forever (unfourtunately the memory of me setting the hook on a 20lb+ chromer and snapping her off in the process will as well)

Next season I either hafta get a lot more friends hooked on steelie fishin or hope gas comes down cuz its a bug that no number of walleyes, pike and musky can seem to fill.

Twelve or so trips from Carrolltown in my pick up with my Dad and fishing buddy Mike, all overnighters. We share the expenses, but I still figure at least two grand. I guess if I was addicted to something illegal, I wouldn't have a family or house, or all my other blessings. We were shooting for 16 trips last season, but mother nature had a hand in only making 12. I'm already tucking away a "war chest" for next season. My son got me a very nice 7/8 weight Orvis Battenkill mid arbor off E-bay for around $50, so I guess I have to buy a new rod for it. We have discussed making our trips for 3 days next season. Oh well, I won't be able to stay away, so I'll just have to pay, pay , pay.   Fishmonger

2006 to april of 2007 cost me roughly 50 dollars round trips in gas
2007 to april of 2008 cost me roughly 75 dollars round trips in gas

06/07 i made 35 trips 1 over night stay with bait fishing = roughly 2100 dollars
07/08 i made 7 trips 2 over night stays without bait fish= roughly 900 dollars

Becoming a father really cut down my trips but i know in the future, its only going to make those trips more and more enjoyable.

For me, I equate the money I spend on fishing season to what others might spend as season ticket holders to a major sports franchise (Steelers or Penguins).

i live about 100 miles from presque isle so i guess i get off easy.  gas=@ 25mpg would be 35 bucks at today's price, non-resident license is 67.00.  the only thing i have to get is just one more rod and reel, just one more honey, i really need it......whoops, just practicing.
