Guess i shouldnt have shut the alarm off this morning.

They will gobble when they feel like it. I've had birds gobble as it is just starting to get light. Quite often by the time the sun comes up they are done.
As far as asking a time, that always changes, I'd say now that 5:30 or so is when I'm hearing the absolute earliest gobbles, most beginning around 5:40 to 5:45.

Some would argue that the Shipp Wreck was the greatest call ever made.  I would be hard pressed to argue that.  Darryl Shipp had a winner with that call and I don't know if it is even made any longer since MADD is no longer its' own entity.  Probably the best all around call is a good slate (Cody would be my personal favorite, but there are a lot of good ones on the market).  When you hear someone that is really good on a slate, your head will snap around in the blink of an eye to pay attention.  As for mouth calls, I have a couple manufacturers I turn to.  One is Chestnut Ridge in Ohio.  His calls have been the demise of a lot of birds and are used by several people that call in WTF events every year.  Another that I love but you will not hear much of is Adventure Game Calls in NY.  You may have seen the owner on a show or two now and then, but his true talent is building calls and killing turkeys.  His cutters are the best diaphragms you will ever use.  I generally don't expect them to last for many years as they are soft and seem to break down (not unlike the Shipp Wreck).  My feeling is that the birds you are hunting may have you patterned better than you have them patterned.  It may be time to employ a little stealth and patience.  Find the strutting zones, set up on them early, let a couple of soft yelps.  If you hear a gobble, sit tight and wait.  If you don't hear a gobble, sit tight and wait (he knows you are there).  You might let out with a soft set of yelps every once in a while (20-30 minutes), but give him something different and you might be surprised at what he does.  If his strutting zone is large fields, laying in the middle of the field, twenty yards from a hen decoy and remaining motionless might not be the worst option.  There is a good bet that noone has tried this (I know this works from first hand experience...).   Good Luck in the morning. 

Gobbled on the roost good this morning 5/5 Called in 22lb 11 inch beard watched him come for 90 yds never gobbled only putted and strutted Took almost 1/2 hour for him to cover 90 yds Gobblers on other ridge never stopped Gobbling even after shot.

griffon, I concur about birds having him patterned, guess that's what I meant by hunting pressure.

Birds have been quiet hear all week. Amish already have them call shy.

We only hunt spots every 2 to 3 days apart could they still pattern us? We don't hunt them every day.We try different spots every other day i don't call alot at least i don't think so. I call like every 10 minutes apart with 4 yelps,3 yelps and 4 more yelps is this over calling to them?Then the next time maybe a yelp with a couple of clucks.

They're real quiet around my house too.  I know from the numbers I've seen during the late winter that there are plenty of birds about.  But they're silent in the morning.  I doubt they've patterned me because I've only been out twice.  Plus, I dont call excessively (tho, I might sound so bad that the instant I call, every turkey in the valley knows it's me).  Gotta work a lot this week, may not get out at all.  Is turkey hunting a lot harder towards the end of the season?

Spoke with several other hunters in past 2 days, all have told me that gobbling activity is next to none for them also, even late mornings.
Looking at the forcast for next week it looks like some rain. That may spur the hens to sit more so eggs are not lost. Things may pick up soon.

Dam good job! A good year for sure.
