New at cats...

What would be a good place to start in S.W. Pa?  have boat...thanks

    Pretty much every major river in the state has cats in it. Fish at night with cut bait in a channel. Im not a cat pro.

    never fished for cats on a boat, really dont have to, the Mon river either side from California to New Eagle is good, use to crush large channel cats behind the old Giant Eagle in Monessen and lock 4 dam on the fast side from the wall, but i'm not sure you can fish there anymore, but Ive never fished for them much before sunset

    I'm no expert,but have caught several large cats this time of the year till early june below the dams.Sunny days 16' or deeper, overcast days 8-10' seems to have been the ticket! Good luck!

    Go get about a dozen bluegills from a pond or lake.  Keep them alive in a five gallon bucket.  Fish the Mon, just about anywhere is good.  Between Elizabeth and Chaleroi is best.  Use heavy line, 12lb or better.  Use a ½ ounce sinker or better.   Hook the bluefill through the tail or back.  Give it a good heave and get a cold beer and sit you arse in a comfortable chair.  This is the best Flathead fishing method.

    Is there much shore fishing around Elizabeth? I took my boat there once and fished below a lock that was upstream from a big bridge. I don't remember what bridge, I do remember a big****bardge comming down right past us though.

    Yes, there is alot of good shore fishing in and near Elizabeth.  The name of the bridge is the Regis Malady bridge but most people just call it the Elizabeth bridge.    There is a concrete covered barge there that makes it easy if you want to take someone hancicapped fishing.  There is alot of barge traffic in that area.  Elizabeth still has several towboat and barge repair facilities and lots of mooring for barges, that coupled with the Lock and Dam #3 makes alot of barge traffic.
