Peters Creek in Large, PA

Has anyone been out on Peters Creek Lately and has the association stocked it recently?  This stream has some nice holes and can be fun to fish.

Thanks!

The association has not yet stocked the creek. Why not consider joining the organization, help in the spring cleanup effort of the creek and help support the efforts required to maintain this little treasure in the south hills. The attached message is from the last posting on this site about the creek.

Tri-Community Anglers still stock Peters Creek. Website is: tcaa.peterscreek.org for more info on the club. Always do a clean-up along the creek the Saturday before opening day. That'll be April 5th this year.

Heard the fishing was great down there before the latest cold snap.  Lots of hold over fish in there.

Fished it before it got cold and did pretty good.  Got 4 or 5 and had some misses.  Might try to go today but not sure if I can get out.

i'd have to disagree about the hold over thing...

that creek is so over fished that it easily gets drained... if it wasn't for the sportsman club december stock there wouldn't be any trout in there at all during the winter months...

Eh, I've caught them out of there in summer and mid winter, they're in there between stockings and beyond.  Plenty of fish are in there year round, they just aren't easily caught.  I do agree about the fishing pressure and no matter how many signs are up about the recomended c&r, there is still a ton of fish taken from there.  Oh well.

yeah i live less than a mile up the road from peters and really only fish it in the dead of winter and july when the smallie and sauger come up...

the rest of the time that creek just isn't worth it...  i'd rather head to the yough

I've had prety good luck there this winter. I've only hit a couple of holes, but they've been good. Haven't gotten a hit lately, but I haven't been trying very much either.

Some of the quad riders kind of get on my nerves. Last time I was there 4 of them came by and rode through the fork upstream a couple of times, turning the water murky, then a couple of laps through a spring that feeds directly in, making it a complete mudbath.

is this the stream that runs by the ponds and the old slag dump back behind the Large Hotel? if it is, surely never knew they stocked it.

Yup, have caught smallies & last year was the 1st time i've seen saugers in there, me & my brother in law pulled quite a few out, and in the couple yrs prior to that we would catch alot of small hybrid striped bass, but did'nt see any of them last yr, nice to see more of a variety in there instead of all the bruising carp & sheepheads (and the ever present millions of chubs) that used to dominate the stream.

I stopped up on Tuesday for about 1.5hrs. Fished from the bridge at the ponds down about 3 or 4 bends and didn't get a bump. I was using artificial lures and the water was real milky (not sure what that's about). I usually do pretty well (3 or 4) but nothing so far.
