march already!

And i went icefishing once this whole season! lol, It is either the weather the gas or just too many excuses keeping me from heading way up north. Wish gas wasn't so **** expensive.. before you know it , it will be spooning krocs for browns and drifting eggs /worms/nyphms for bows I might just by chance still get late season icefishing in but getting busy again..  anybody with any walleye stories this year yet? lol

Yep, gittin warm again back. Seen a few pics of some nice 'eyes out of 'toga. Mixed reports from Goodyear this year. I never made it there. Only targeted 'eyes once this year, and came up empty. Heard a 20lb pike came out of Lonely this past week.

If the ice is good, I'll be out this weekend for a season finale. I'd invite you up, but I already know the answer.

Hook, I want to be up there so bad for ice fishing but can't do it! Caught up with some home improvement projects now and need to prepare for the great depression! lol omg the market is tanking and all i can do is ignor wallstreet ! I see people across the country are ****ed because they need to adjust to rising costs of living. I'm thankful for what I have but man oh man! lol..hey,  this year thinking of posting a few digital cams of me with some nice fish. I catch and release most these days and the trout spring opener is my favorite time of year. I let go most the big browns april may june..I do  keep a few throughout the season for eating. I'm not sure if it is wise showing these big fish though over the internet! lol but with 4 dollars a gallon this summer, I doubt many will be fishing my spots anyway!

If you go give me a shout.  I may try Saratoga Lake today near Fitch Road to see if the crappies are starting to hit.  Haven't had much time to get out with all the changes in the weather.  Did notice backin 79 is threatening another visit, but it is only the 23rd time this year.
Should be a good day to work on my tan at Saratoga Lake!

Gonna be a no-go this weekend Ed. I just don't feel like slopping through the slush. Dumped my bait today and put away the ice fishing gear. Won't be long now before I de-winterize the boat. I'll have to get you and Yank on it this year.

Bye bye 07/08 ice fishing season.

I feel the same about the ice fishing after yesterday on Saratoga Lake with no hits and plenty of slush.  When you get a chance go to Carp/Catfishing and see pictures of Eagle Crgs 48lb. catfish.  You, Yank and Backin will get a kick out of that large cat.

say ed , after this rain you think most the ice will be done? seems like all but the most northern higher elevations will see an early ice out imo!

after todays southerners rain fall anywhere from the ADK's south will be shot and those that do get out are brave souls.
Now as for the Adirondack lakes, yes that starts near Lake George.
Most lakes have PLENTY good safe ice i'm talking besides LG ,20 inches on most
what will start to happen is the shore line will receed making access tough, not just yet but in the next few weeks.
with the high stream flows one is crazy not to hit the ice now.
    first ice and last ice

anyone know about conditions in schroon lake. they must have been hit hard by these last two storms. i was thinking of heading that way early this week, but didn't want to drive all the way there only to find a disaster area.

Steve, best bet is to check the conditions report at iceshanty dot com. There is a lot more traffic on that board. What is there, like 6 of us here?

like i said before and to give you mor info:
Schroon Lake has 12+ inches of ice
the warmer wearher durring the day souped the top up a bit but the last 2 nights have been in the teens which hardened it up
all is good and if the days warm up this weekend only expect a little slush.

Count me in on Hook's boat!

Is it too early to start putting together worm harnesses and spinner baits?

A buddy of mine is coming up from Westchester on Sunday. I guess they haven't had much ice down there this winter, and he's itching to get out. I'm sure there will be safe ice somewhere.

If he can come up, why can't backin?

Hook, busy this weekend, I got to strt saving for filling up the tank soon for iceout! lol , I alway do well dragging small crocs/pheobes (no more than 3/8 oz. 1/4oz and 1/16 oz preferred off shore  into the deep coves open shorelines. It's worth the trip for these browns early ice out in the catskills. Any res. is worth the hike!

Trust this north country boy. A Lake Clear Wobler in front of a spinner and worm is killer.

it's going to have to be car pooling for this summer and not as many weekender trips i'm afraid! gasoline prices may keep me local should they really go to 4 dollars and higher.
