Stopped by twin lakes yesterday, fished in the rain for about an hour with no luck. I'm just hoping we can get some ice this year.

Hope you're doing well Sam, haven't seen ya in forever.

CTK, I've probably seen you there earlier in the year. I spend a lot of time on that pool as the launch is only two miles from the house. I hang out down by the cove upriver from the marina, and over at the 3 sister rocks. I will admit that this year has be horrible fishin'. The 'eyes don't seem to be in their regular haunts for any given time of the year.

Skim ice at Indian lake when the family and I were there exercising on tuesday.  A couple guys trying for pelletheads in the open water at the inflows but didn't see any catching.

Have been wet wading all week. Mostly bluefish and whiting. One Jack and two hardhead cats. Not sure where the pompano are. Another day tomorrow, then maybe some freshwater on Saturday. I can definitely get used to this.

I spent an hour or so yesterday on a local trout stream in order to wring the last nickel out of my fishing license.

Well, tis the season. Or atleast the very early start of it.

Been out 3 times so far, did next to squat. Windy and chilly has been the normal thus far. Maybe after this next system, temps will take swing upward and we can get some kind of stable weather pattern set up. Hey, guess there's always trout fishin this weekend. Or whatever you want to use as an excuse for morning whiskey shots🥃 and cigars. 😉

Good luck and stay safe out there. 🍻

Re: anyone fishing 2021/04/02 21:44:12 (permalink)
Tim , that's the upper Shenango river that flows into Shenango lake from the Pymy outflow. The lower Shenango below the dam is the area with the PCB warnings . They quit stocking Trout in the lower and now stock them in the upper part. The lower Shenango was the Walleye central for many years and still holds walleye along with other game fish species but with the no eat warnings and no Trout being stocked many people stopped fishing the lower. It still holds game fish ....I do well there on Stripers and SM Bass in summer.

The lower Shenango had much better holding and fishing water for trout and much easier access but after 50 years of stocking trout there the PFBC decided not to stock it anymore after the PCB warnings came out. Oddly enough we (50K or more ) drink the water from the lower Shenango daily but don't dare eat a fish. Sadly the PFBC and the EPA never updated any new information on water conditions or testing of fish for years now.

The upper river is okay fishing in certain areas but it has a lot of dead slack water .....great area for canoes and kayaks .

Fished again today with poor results again. Not sure if they moved out already or if they never came in yet? Water temp ended up at 61.6°. This crazy weather has gotten all screwed up. 70° one day, snow the next then 80° days after that.

Eyes/crappies or both the targets?
Still need to get the boy out local for crappies but they may be waning already with the higher temps....forsythia past full bloom already and so are the magnolias, at least around here.  How I used to judge the crappie bite....
Stoopid work....

Re: anyone fishing 2021/04/08 09:46:03 (permalink)
Everything is so messed up this spring, but usually is.  Just seems to be more drastic in swings every year.  Winter decided to hold on, then a glimpse of summer, then back to winter, a few spring days sprinkled in, then summer, next week appears to be spring...  Not sure what the fish are thinking?  If they are thinking summer, then I don't have a chance of catching any!

From my extremely minimal aquarium experience, shifts in water temperature = unhappy fish.  Can only imagine it is doing similar with these fish.  Except, they are able to move to find those more comfortable temps, unlike the aquarium fish.  I obviously don't know where those temps are.  Or, if they find those temps, are they just hanging there to not die rather than there to eat like crazy for prespawn?

Not sure if that is what happened in the fall as well, but I had my worst fall fishing results ever last year.  Granted, "stoopid work" factor in only being able to fish certain days and not the luxury of fishing best conditions plays a huge factor.  There, you just need to luck into being off during the right conditions.  Having off last week instead of this week has been about the biggest kick in the groin that I have had in a while, for fishing and getting any outside work done.
