Hey... all y'all know, 10 to 14000 years ago, (give or take annnd pending who yinz talk to) there use to be a glacier where Lake Erie is now? Considering Sandy, Conneaut, and Sugar Lakes are glacial it's fascinating sitting here near PI, imagining the entire area covered by ice.

πŸ€” I wonder too, what the ice fishing might a been like, back then.🀭

I agree, perfect weather to go climb a tree and scout for hunting season. Pack up the kayak for the mountain bike. Go get those pumpkins carved and get ready for thanksgiving. Fishing is over for the year!!!

Speaking cooling water temps. The fall crappie bite from shore has begun to pick up in my neck of the woods. No big numbers yet, but getting a few nice size fish each outing the past 10 days. Most fish have been caught 4 - 8ft below a slip float while fishing deeper weed edges. Various colors of marabou jigs, Bobby Garlands and Gulp minnows have all caught fish, but there is no real pattern, changing baits or depth when the bite slows seems to help. Fished this evening until dark with similar results, the wind was brisk and chilly.

This cold front that pushed through did not look like a fun time to fish.  That is definitely earning your catch for sure!  Hopefully some good days ahead.  To go hunting and biking, I mean...  Fishing is over until opening day of trout!

That wind was intense. I did probably my last float of the year on the Yough yesterday and between the wind and the floating leaves it was tough. I should have hit it Wednesday instead.

I always plan trips around the wind.  Windfinder app is rather reliable, at least 2-3 days out.  I reference it any time I am planning a trip.  Beyond 2-3 days it is mostly a guess, so hard to really plan too far ahead.  I mostly fish Arthur, so I use it to figure out what part of the lake that should have more favorable wind.  If it is saying gusts of over 15-20mph, I don't even mess with fishing, or will wade an area that I know is going to be shielded.

It is great for fishing the beach where wind seems to really play into water clarity, waves and pushing baitfish.  Determine whether I should fish the front side, back side or inlet.

I think I might have had that app on my old phone, but never got into the habit of using it.

I haven’t had to deal with the wind much this summer since I’ve mainly stuck to smaller rivers and creeks that are more shielded from the wind. yesterday was probably the first day I’ve experienced super windy conditions on the Yough.

I might try to hit arthur next week so I’ll have to get on that app, and make sure I use it more next summer.

Trout stockings are scheduled in area lakes for the upcoming week. Water temps were good this week from what I heard. Busy time of year for outdoorsmen. Gotta love May & Oct. Good luck to all. Be SAFE.   sam

Did 6 1/2 hours on the river yesterday on pool 4. Another busted day. Bait shop says nobody's catchin' on the river, but doin' ok in the lakes? Go figure.

On another note, we arrived at the launch in Freeport to find the entire lot completely repaved, brand spankin' new blacktop with the equipment still sittin' there, and although the sign said closed until Monday, the 19th, (today), there was 3 or 4 other trucks with trailers parked in there.
But somebody is probably pizzed at me 'cause I didn't park the rig straight after launch. Who would have thought that while we were fishin', on a Sunday afternoon, mind you, that they would come in and paint all the lines for trailer parking and even painted out a couple of the spaces with the handicap emblem. Where I backed in, they ran a line right up to and nearly under the center of the Jeeps' front bumper, and the second line right up to the left trailer tire.
I don't think it would have been the Borough payin' employees overtime to paint out a PFBC parkin' lot, so it could've been the company under the employ of the paver.
At any rate, I'm just wonderin' how much license money went to repave about 3/4s of an acre. Really nice job, though.

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That's a sign of a good economy. People that are working on Sundays. It's not so much an overtime issue with the borough, but an already busy contractor just wanting to get the work done.

When I was still working. I would always pay attention to how many vehicles were on the freeway very early Saturday mornings, when I was on my way to work. The more cars that you would see, the more people that were going to work overtime.

Reports from friends indicate that the bass are on their annual fall spree. My buds have been doing well using large minnows at the local lakes. Nothing big  ,but a lot of fun with the 12-16" fish. I would love to try Yellow Creek Lake for Bass & Pike.  btw they were having probs with the leaves.  sam

IBSP (NJ), 2 x 18” schoolie stripers on the back side, one on a surf candy teaser, the other on a Deizel Minnow. Nothing going on out front. Tried tossing tins, sand eel imitation, and sand fleas. Still nice to fish the surf. Most likely 2 weeks early. I hear the hogs are in NY and starting to show up in northern NJ.

Not sure if this heat wave will mess up fishing locally?  I always seem to have issues when there is a sudden drop off of temps, but not sure if 3 days of unseasonably warm, then drop will make a difference?  For those that can get out and enjoy, the next two days look great to just get outside, a few fish would be a bonus.

Been crazy rain events muup north around Erie town. Rain Tuesday was constant and heavy at times all through the night and yesterday off & on all day then again last night and this morning it poured again. I'm hearing more on the way.

60s today, 70s Friday, back to 50s (rain forecast) Saturday and low 30s Sat. night.

However, the weather dude has been known to change his mind.... at the last minute.

Some folks getting their wish for lots of rain to raise the criks. β˜”

Hit Arthur today for the first time since, I dunno, sometime in May or June? Didn’t get anything since I have no idea what kind of pattern anything is on at this time of year, but damm was it super nice on the water for late October.

They were were also launching some ginormous houseboat thing at Mcdanels. Looked way too big for that lake (I’m sure it’s over the 20hp limit). Really weird scene.

They have their own dock right around that corner from the ramp. To the left if your looking at the lake.
