I don't recall exactly when I discovered the Elk Creek Inn was closed.  I was driving by one day and noticed the sign that they were closed and the place was for sale.  It was sometime last fall.

i have a hard time believing it was shut down by the health department and the news wasnt all over the t.v. and newspaper. not sure how many of you guys are from erie but those that are will probably back me here....if theres some drama in a restaurant in erie....it gets tons of media attention. like when the dishwasher was 1 degree off at a restaurant and it recieved a "critical violation." im glad people make sure our restaurants are clean....but i also kinda think that ignorance to what happens behing the doors is a good thing. hey.....if that chinese restaurant across from st george church is serving cat.....its some delicious feline....especially with xtra garlic sauce and a lil spicy!

On a side note....I did once eat popcorn at the elk creek inn that was at least 9 years old.....yet i continued to eat it.....

Calfin's is on the corner of 6N and 98.  Nothing like a tall Killian's draft after a long days fishing!!

I've often wodered about their food, when taking the scenic route. Wonder why they drained that big lake on 6N?

    Spoon,

What I heard is that the folks down stream of the lake were worried about the dam.  I believe the guy drained the lake and fixed the dam and is now letting it fill again.

I am not immediatley familiar with the one on 6N, but often the DEP division of dam saftey will condemn a dam with a repair or remove stamp.  Then it is the owners duty to get it taken care of.

    1. chippers....read the story below....
the rest in no particular order are:
    avonia
1 way inn(20 wings for 6 bucks....and they are big)
    fiddle inn
    park tavern
    elis(take forever though)

3 years ago this feb 26th my mom passed away. obviously a very hard time for me, my family, and especially my dad. She was real sick on the thursday and we kinda knew what was coming. My buddy picked me up friday at 330 and she was still alive in the hospital, but barely holding on. I was a wreck and had been up for 40 some hours. My buddy took me to chippers for a quick beer and i met the owner of the kitchen there...her name is mardi....she asked why i looked down and i kinda gave her the quick version. After about 15 mins my brother called and said you might wanna get back up here....so i went and stayed with my mom until she passed the next morning. a couple days later we had 2 viewings in one day...i think 1-3 and then 6-8....my family went back to my parents house in between and did what 5 boys and there dad would do....we drank....and by the way we are 100 percent irish....about 345 my parents doorbell rings and its mardi from chippers....she had 150 wings and a few other types of food.....she said she knew we wouldnt cook and wanted to make sure we were all ok. i knew her 20 mins at that point....and she made my entire family smile with that good deed. this all being said.....i dont go back there just to give her business....i go there because her wings are phenomenal....and she is a great person.

Sorry for the longwinded story fellas.....
