Heading up to Jamestown campground next weekend. What's the best artificial baits to use from shore around the campground?

I'm hoping for some walleye or smallmouths. Maybe even a Muskie if I'm lucky.

Re: Pymatuning Lake 2018 2018/07/18 21:05:14 (permalink)
Well I wasn't fishing but I was doing some trolling (sounds friendlier than prowling) the area along East Lake before moving onto North Shore area. Was a pleasant ride except I probably shouldn't have gone to the Linesville Marina before cutting cross country to RT 6 where upon turning left I found the road closed?

I'll be darned, had I simply followed 6 out of Linesville I may have seen the stupid road closed signs and possibly the detour signs too. Who knew??

Not to worry, whipped out my trusty.... phone (ya hogs), tapped the "maps app" and down the road I go. Dirt road, that is, where "Maps" had me turn onto yet another dirt road blocked with "road closed" signs....WTH!!!

OK so reroute and continue on and that's where I learned internet and GPS signals suck in the area. But fear not, I still have my trusty compass on my dash and it's showing I am headed north which is exactly where I do not wish to go. No problem, I'll just find a place to turn around, hopefully soon, when what before my eyes did appear but a red sign with 4 letters that read STOP. A left or right puts me on a paved road so I chose to follow the old proverb "Go West Young Man" where some odd miles later I reconnected with RT 6 (turns out the paved road actually traveled southwest) and I was right at the other side of the construction and almost to my destination. Thank goodness, back to civilization and my internet signal was back too!!!

To make a long story short, no way in hell did I try and find my way back to Linesville. It was "Andover OR Bust" then "Home Again, Home Again.

Oh, did I mention while passing through Espeyville I stopped at the boat launch to make use of the facilities? Not the launch, I just had to pee really bad. But during my visit I learned there is now a "boat wash" available at the sight and the sign said to see the "launch attendant" for assistance. Perfect, I now have an excuse to to talk to the person sitting under the tent looking thingy over by the dock, cause she was cute as a button. My first question "I Don't have my boat but can I still have a free bobber "? Sadly, "no" came the answer she was out of bobbers. OK, so about this boat wash thing, is everyone going to be required to wash before, after, or both when botor moating. "No, it's only voluntary as is an inspection of your boat" I was told. "The wash is experimental and two more sights, are planned in the future". I thanked the young lady for her information and headed back to the car, somewhat disappointed not getting a bobber.

I Don't know about using the boat wash but I do appreciate the other facilities. I mean, my eyes were looking yellow.

Anybody been having luck with walleyes this month? I finally managed 1 Sunday, Got fed up pulling in Cat after Cat drifting so we moved shallow to catch some perch and bluegills and much to my surprise reeled in a eye out of 3ft of water, mid-day / full sun to boot. Other than that been getting skunked ever week so far.

Was there yesterday and yes the walleyes are shallow but you have to have chop. Night bite is better with Bombers

Planned on going to erie with a friend Saturday, but figured the waves were going to be to much for us so we took my little rig to pymy and got beat with the heavy chop...just the way I like it πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜œ. Wish I had a better report for you, but all we got to the boat were small cats and perch. Lost 2 heavy fish in the deep water that stayed down like eyes. Normal summer fishing at pymy for me, but we had a good time having some laughs and getting soaked every time I moved the boat. Tight lines...

Rt. 6 is opened back up near Red Cross & Wilson's launch. Good the detour past my place on Maples is over, bad that the Geese just keep pouring in all week long & these dang parachutes with small engines are just as bad, started at 6:00 am & will prob. go 'till after sunset as has been most ov the week.

Not a weekend fisher & keep making more work for myself at camp but would be nice to get out one ov these days with my sons.

Crappy I remember sitting on the river, lake, or in my high chair swinging my feet, somewhere in Penn's Woods wishing I could retire and spend all my time fishing and hunting.  Soooooooo now that I am, I spend more time working then enjoying what I enjoyed, before I retired.  The weird part, I now find enjoyment in working..... Wassup with that????

Had some really cool fun this past Friday, for the first time in my life I got to experience, hands on replacement, of a torsion spring for my  overhead garage door.  How much funner could a guy ask for?  Hell it was even more gooder than when the dam spring broke and scared the living hell out of me.

I need a day off.

My wife and I fished Pymy over the weekend and like most days we caught more fish (perch) from the dock than we did from the boat. Didn't keep anything, but it was nice to get out. Recently put a new 20 hp on my Franken-toon and after a few adjustments we broke the speed record (for that boat) at 9.25 mph. Old record was a bit over 8 mph. Just might get a whole 10 mph with the wind. :)

Fished pymy for first time in a month...crappie tourney out of Duck and Drake...only 3 teams had 8 fish limit and only 7 teams had fish...we managed to catch only 12 crappie but we did have 8 legal fish...5lb 4oz...caught them before noon when the sun wasn't out...cribs in 9-11 fow...small jig and minnow or plain hook and minnow rigged drop shot style...fish early and they can be caught but once sun up high no luck

Was a lovely day at Pymie though, I wasn't on the water. But there sure was a lot of activity from Snodgrass to Tuttle. Took advantage of gasoline prices across the causeway before taking a 'rubbernecking' ride through the area along RT 7 where the twister passed through. Good to see many of the homes and other buildings have been repaired and the folks getting back to normal. If getting back to normal is even possible after living a nightmare like the storm that passed through Williamsfield.

Had to do a reroute just before getting to Jamestown on 322. Not sure why but all traffic got stopped so I turned around and took the dam road over to E. Lake road and finished my trip home.

Anyways, was a beautiful day in PA and OH too.

Fished from 11 to about 5:30pm on the yak. Did very well with largemouth as all I fished were the lillypads.

Water was 74 when I get there, by time I left was at 78.

Anyone still having luck getting eyes in the shallows late night/early morning with bombers or Rapala's? Heading out real early Saturday wasn't sure how I should focus my hours before sunrise, shallow or deeper.

Fished a day last week and found some decent perch in 9 FOW. Kept 12 and one was almost 12". Trolled the deeper water at mid-day and caught one 24" channel cat on a Hot-N-Tot.

Dam pesky cat fish. 😁

I'll take sizable Perch any day. But with my luck, I'm having a good day if I catch bullheads. Sounds like ya had a good time and went home with some yummy fish.

Good for you and thanks for the report.
