Tuna and Clint, good times and tight lines during your get aways.
After following the threads from yinz two, this past summer, I need a vacation.

Deer camp. To us this is fun stuff. It's just under 2hrs from my house atop of a mountain in an unimproved road that dead ends 3/4 mile where our property starts. We have 1 life long neighbor who's place makes anything in some low places look like a palace compared to his . That aside, those people are clutch and friendly as could be. We have now over 900 acres, on the very top, there are hundreds of acres around that nobody utilizes. We dont see people or hear gun shots. Not even opening day. I've been hunting there for 34 years. It's remote with mostly big hardwoods. Our camp is nothing fancy. I like it that way because it discourages the unwanted. Next spring I'm making an improvement of a 12X12 shed style sleeping cabin. Trevor, our cameras had thousands of pictures. We seen many shooters, bald or antlers. I'm not counting my chickens but I'm 100% positive I'll be butchering deer once I start my hunting on November 3rd.

Every year I fish the beach we were married on for our anniversary. We also go out on a friend's boat. We went, camped for 3 days, ate great food and I caught 73 stripers, 2 pollock, 2 bonita, and a flounder, all on the fly. After recent months this was as good a break as I could possibly ask. Now it's time at the vise for steelhead flies. I probably have enough for 2 years or more, but you never have enough, ya know? Good luck out there folks. I'll add some pics. later.

Low reports indicate that it has slowed significantly in the past few days and fish are in spawn mode- some very soon after coming in. Without a big push on its way the annual King run seems to have pretty much slowed- as is pretty normal for mid Oct. Am coming up Mon through Wed and looking forward to some fish throughout the system. Although not what had been predicted early on. Seems not a great year but not a bad one either. I'll gladly take it.

I heard there was a moderate push of fish through yesterday. With this rain and increased flow of almost 900 yesterday and 650 today I would say whatever is left is coming in now

I know a co worker is heading to the estuary tonight with his boat in hopes of trout. He is not a harpoon whaler . Something I used to do often in late October many moons ago

They are just looking to avoid people, sit in a boat and maybe catch a fish. Salmon are not the target. Don't get no better than that imo.

It's days like these that bring back the fun. I'm happy, my fire is burning indoors once again. While doing some man cave cleaning I took a seat to reflect on the fun times. Can't remember a time I wasn't with my grandfather ( Otto Indian) when there wasn't a white owl stogie and green d!ckie work clothes. Wore the same hunting except a red and black plaid woolrich light jacket. Days like these.

On Tuesday in the afternoon a guy who looked like 'Joe Orvis'- all the fancy new gear and nice fly rig came across the river dragging a King. As he passed me I looked at the fish and had to turn from the guy to suppress a laugh. It was a ZOMBIE-about 1/3 white and the belly had big red areas where the skin was completely gone. Sickening. This pro was actually taking the fish home with him. To mount?? To eat himself ??? To feed his family ??? Have seen partly white fish dragged out before -but NOTHING this far gone.

Say, I ain't never been likened to "Joe Orvis" before, Thanks!! Sorry about the fish, I thought that's how they were suppose to look. Well at least after reading your page, I now know it was a King. Thanks again. ... of course yinz know that wasn't me cause I can't catch stupid fish in a bait bucket, even if it is half dead but it sure would have been fun, to be there and see the look on your face r3. Good times and tight lines.

I noted quite a bit of spawning in the DSR. Not sure if it was more than prior years. But I do think quite a few fish don't leave DSR property.

Not so much spawn activity was seen happening in upper river- saw a couple on beds and VERY few deads. With a lot of 'resident' fish hanging around and going up and down kinda think they are just about to get busy. Males were chasing each other and getting territorial.

I didn't get that high Bear but am really glad to hear they are up there doing their thing. Considering the percentage of natural fish in the system a good spawn is a good thing. From what I saw , would think they are more active now where I was last week.

Yes sir Its so fun to watch them carry on. If activity indicated production, we would have a banner year coming when these eggs come back as adults.

Raised quality English style Labs for years-Had some crossover dogs too whos parents were Show dogs with their master hunter certs as well. Also used to help a friend train his dogs for field trials-he was good at it and later became a trial judge himself. Did some of my own dogs too. Soo- when a co worker years back started telling us how he was working with a Duck hunting friend training a Lab for hunting I was interested, we got weekly reports of what sounded like real great progress. Monday after the start of Duck season was eagerly awaiting a report on their hunt. My friend came in, and when asked said he had never been so embarrassed while hunting. Seems they setup in the dark on a marsh and some other folks set up a couple of hundred yards from them-OK that happens. Story went that the other guys were in the right slot and had all the action. The embarrassing part was that whenever the other guys shot -the new dog bolted from the blind -swam out into the decoys and did a great decoy return to its master. Seems this went on for a few hours lol.
