My friend is on the SR today staying at tailwater, brother in law on ice catching gills. My fun day was having the log splitter start. Getting it done here and goal is to have pile gone today to pull boat out tomorrow. Enjoy your all day

Heading to a semi local establishment this evening for some dinner and live music. They have this event every leap year (although we have never been there before). It is Copernicus Day. They have Polish food, beer, and music in celebration.

One of the best things that happened today was a phone call from a friend I haven't talked to in awhile. It was actually fun conversation and heart warming. Thanks brother.

A lot more work than I thought. Got the one pile split yesterday. Lots more to go today. Still have 2.5 cords left from this winter. One mistake I made last year was moving my woodpile on north side of garage. It's all being relocated back to south side now. On a good news garden, 36 tomatoe seeds sprouted. Hopefully get another 36 started this week. From the 89 quarts we canned, only 7 left. Gonna miss homemade sauce for awhile. March will be a very busy month preparing for garden, chickens and pigs. Everything starts to get real, really fast in April. 8 day tour following Lukas Nelson and promise of the real through 5 shows 4 states and about 1,700 miles. When we return, the daisy mae gets a splashdown for stripers.

You're a bundle of energy, HT. Hopefully some of that life force hits the stripes and they'll commence the dance up the river without last year's high and murk. Took a walk along the river today in the sun. Bet I could have found a pike or some walleye in the warming dark seams. Won't be long. Edit: Surreal photos, Gerry. Jaw drop stunning.

Last year looked exactly like this upcoming season. The river was ice free and temperatures steadily increasing with not much northern snow melt. Last season was very, very strange as things were looking great. Herring were in small waves making live bait fishing hit and miss. If a wave of herring came through you caught striper but the waves were few and far between. The upper river never really loaded up. We caught a few stripers on cut bait in last 2 weeks of April, the a big push of herring first week in may then totally dead 10 days later. Myself and charter boats pulled out by second week of May. I'm hoping this year given like conditions isn't a repeat. If the river remains clear giving sunlight to penetrate and increase temperature, they don't stick around very long up here

Read your last line, reminded me of a similar experience wherein it came together quicker but fish had already started to drop back even when some bait was still running in. Low for better results ?? Whatever, you always seem to find them- nice ones too.

Hey- I got a census form in the mail the other day asking me to call some phone number to complete it. Frankly I don't trust anything in this everyone doing some kinda scam era. Kinda don't like calling some number with what may be personal info. so its sitting in a pile of bills lol. At the same time am seeing on the news that they are hiring people to go door to door doing the census. Might not talk to some pre unemployed scruffy door knocker either, Whatever happened to fill this out and return on the US GOVT return pre stamped included envelope ??

Really, dsr closed ? Because they are actually a fishing / recreation business ? Considered non essential businesses Sorry dsr but I know many guides, charters, lodges and grunt workers that will feel hardships and hopefully still be able to fish for free

Would think that 'non essential' means drift boats, tackle shops even guides etc., DSR certainly felt it included them. Guess a lotta drop backs, spawning steel and browns will live to see another season. At least it didn't happen in 'silly season' so the folks in Pulaski will not get hit too hard in the pockebook.

If you are a contractor, and you get a call from someone who has a broken pipe in the basement, you are an essential business while you fix the emergency. If you go on a call to do a bathroom remodel, you are in violation of the governors orders, as that is not emergency or essential. The impact on the economy is massive, but to the governor's (and his able advisors), it is necessary at least until the initial crush of patients gets cut back, and the emergency hospital capacity is in place. Or, when you come down with it in a week or so, you should be ready to call when the cough gets so you can't stop and you can't breathe, and be told, "we might have a bed available next Thursday." Non Essential mean everything except groceries or food stores, gas stations and pharmacies, except for emergency services. And the 6 foot social distancing, for everything, no more park basketball. Imagine if this had hit in the fall, and you had to try to enforce social distancing in the town pool! If I could take Two Bob fishing, I'd have to tie him to the roof of the truck! https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-issues-guidance-essential-services-under-new-york-state-pause-executive-order

Well, l supposed liquor stores are essential because they are able to stay open. Every local small business I went yesterday said they are considered essential. Farm feed and sawmill were 2. Our cement plant had its slew of high level lawers tell us it is essential to produce cement. All outside contractors are now banned from our plant and work must be done in house ( finally) to keep our workers working
