Great story Tim, that's a lucky guy ! Is that a Trout stream by chance, didn't see any fish in that creek ? Maybe some native Trout? First time up that way in over 30 years. I see others are not having luck on Pymy also.....strange season so far!

Pymy is definitely fishing bad for Walleye so far. Not sure what's up, but when 5-6 guys I fish with on and off are all struggling to catch Spring Walleyes something is wrong. We have hit several different areas , different times of night and day, with very little results! We keep finding excuses, but the Walleye have yet to show for the Spring bite along the shores. Hopefully it's just a slow start but compared to other years it's way off ! Any word on the Fish Commish netting numbers ......up , down, same ?

I went out yesterday for some daylight shore fishing. Didn't really expect to catch any eyes, and didn't. Took a tumble in some rocks. Landing scored a 3.3. One knee abrasion, one deep bruised thigh, and a right shoulder dislocation.. Tried to tuck and roll, but missed the landing. It's rough getting old. First things first though, Son and I will be out trolling the stump area today in a 16' Sylvan. Will deal with the shoulder later at the emergency room. Will give a report soon as possible...

It's unfortunate, but I don't ever think Pymie will return to it's glory days. The lake had a bit of resurgence a couple years ago that ended up putting tons of extra pressure on the lake. Everyone heard the walley were back and decided to go back to Pymie. The numbers of walleyes never came close to rebounding like back in the heyday. You can see by the pictures and reports that are posted, the walleyes that for the most part are being caught are much bigger on average than the old days. It was common occurence for many fisherman to go out and catch 30 or more walleyes in a day and get a limit of 15"to 16 1/2" fish with maybe a 17/18" every now and again. Now the angling effort produces a couple fish a day if your lucky. But if you are able to get a few ,they are much nicer usually in the 21" + size range. With amount of angling effort you should be seeing or hearing of sub legal fish being caught on a regular basis, and you are not. I think a few factors have played into the poor fishing over the years. Pymie has, so to speak matured over the years. I, too am one those guys that has been fishing this lake since the early 70's. Back in the day you couldn't drop a jig or a little joe spinner(remember those) on a drift to the bottom with out getting hung up in 2 seconds flat. That cover has degraded tremendously over the years, not as many places for those youngsters to hide in my opinion. The internet is a wonderful thing, but it can do alot of things and one is put alot of pressure on a fisherie. A couple years ago when the walleye were supposedly back , the north end of the lake looked like the western basin of lake Erie on Memorial day weekend. Like I said, I have fished this lake for many many years and I had never seen the amount of boats as I did that day. Simple mathmatics will tell you that kind of pressure has to take it toll on the quality of the fishing. I believe that Alewives getting into the lake have also had a negative impact as well. They have been stocking larger fry the last couple years but with very limited success. All in all , Pymie is what it is. Its a lake that has tons of good memories for us older guys, who remember it for what it used to be like go catch a mess of fish in a day. And hope that someday it will get there again. It's sad, but the younger crowd will probably never get to experience the fishing at Pymie like we had it back in the day. For now , it a grind it out lake. If your happy going out and being on the water and maybe catching a couple 20 plus inchers and a few crappie, perch and a cat or two then this is lake for you. The question was asked what happened to Pymie. Degraded habitat, over fishing, introduction of a nonnative species and slow response and planning from fisheries managers. Thats what happened to Pymie. It's still a beautiful lake and holds many great memories and I'm still thankful for the time I get to spend on her even though the fishing can be very poor. She aint what she used to be, but she's still "mine" and will I always have a soft spot for her. Till next time

A buddy of mine is doing real good on walleye in early morning and evenings with chubs. He had to do a little searching to find a new spot since his usual ones don't seem to be producing. I still havnt had time to make it up. The new little guy is taking up alot of my time.

I've noticed large numbers of small Shad especially on the East side. Never seen big schools like that before on Pymy. Once again not making excuses, but excessive bait would make fishing tougher Like I said the Fish Commish usually posts size reports on classes of fish they net and study. Olds your a tough one , still fishing bruised and banged up..... you just keep on ticking ! BB I too have fished Pymy on and off since the 70's also. I've seen the mix of up's and downs over the years. I remember the days of catching small size Walleye all day long and the days of catching nothing all day long. I guess it's just a nature thing , but I agree Pymy does get tons of more pressure now that the internet has come about. Weather along with satellite maps and instant information make it more easy to zero in on good fishing as far as timing. Even with all the info still nature has a way of protecting it's own, but with all the new automation out there it does give it a challenge. Still Pymy rules on Musky and Walleye as compared to any other inland lake in all of Pa.!

Was out on the water from 10 am to 6 pm today. Did many laps and miles trolling trying everything in the tackle box. We caught 1 bluegill, 1 perch and 1 catfish. Not much of a showing for fishing all the spots known to have produced in the past. Couldn't have asked for a prettier day to be out. Perfect chop and all. Water temp on the surface ranged from 61.7 to 62.7 degrees. Apparently no one works any more and seemed to be on Pymy today. To answer BTDT's question how end of the road launch worked out. There was no parking left there, so went out of Wilsons. Tomorrow it's off to the chiropractor to get the right wing of mine put back in place...olds

Wow, no parking at the launch ramp on a Wednesday. The lake really seems to be getting pounded more than usual the last few years. Don't fish it to much anymore, poor fishing and crowds have moved us to other lakes. It really used to be something special, maybe someday they will get it back in shape. But if that ever happens, I am sure you would be able to walk across the boats to get to shore if you ran out of bait.

Blame it on the Amish. Blame it on the alewive. Blame it on stocking fry instead of fingerlings. Blame it on Ohio. Blame it on the spillway. Still one on the better inland lakes. Many moons ago trolling tots 30-40 fish a day but 90 percent shorts. Years ago ice fishing off Snodgrass I caught 40 plus fish on a Swedish Pimple one day and only kept 3 over 15.5 inches. Seen up and down years, my answer to you,go north Erie.lol I was really thinking this would be a great year at Pymy, and I'd be missing out. Sure glad I cashed in on that off the charts perch bite in the bay. Don't give up May is usually the month to fill the freezer.

I think it Gary Alt's fault . Kinda of similar if you think about it. Most guys would love to be able to catch 20 to 30 a day and bring home 3 or 4, than fish all day for 1 or 2 20 inchers. Oh well, it is what it is. Its a nice lake to spend an afternoon on, if you can get a parking spot

What a fabulous day on the Pymie yesterday, by far one of the finest days of fishing I have had so far this year.
Began the morning shoving off at Tuttle where a near perfect chop and wind was already in progress. Fished the humps and bumps immediately around the point joining many of the other many boats, already on the water. Before I forget, did I mention there seem to be many boats on the water, in the Tuttle Point area?
Honestly, once on the water, I couldn't tell if the 'near perfect chop' was created by a near perfect wind or if the waves, were created by many of the many boats that was already on the water.
After fishing several hours and having found the outing at the north end of the lake to be so enjoyable, I decided to satisfy my curiosity and travel to Jamestown to see what kind of day the south end was enjoying. Not by water of course but by road so it was back to the Tuttle launch where I was assisted by another angler who was very nice with getting the Fish Hawk back on her bunks. During the process, a interesting conversation ensued regarding the many boats on the lake, to which we both agreed, there were many boats on the water.
Having the Fish Hawk loaded I thanked the angler for his assistance and offered my help with getting his boat trailered of which, he greatfully declined. So, it was down the road I go.
FYI, If using Tuttle watch out for the pot holes between the old swimming beach and the boat launch.😧
Made a right hand turn onto 285 crossing the causeway, stopping at Gateway Bait and Tackle for some floaty jigs and crawlers followed by a quick turn into McDonald's for a couple quarter pounders and down the road I go.
Waiting for traffic to pass I saw Walleye Bill go by who too was headed to Jamestown after fishing the Linesville area where he noticed many boats on the water.
It was at the Jamestown launch that the day got even better because it was there that I got to see two guys that was muupere to do some fishing and fishing they did. Registered and Marcos, were both fixing to leave after spending 6 hours on the water in search of the elusive Pymie Walleye. (or other fish)
A offer to join me was kindly declined by Marcos as he had work to do at his new Adobe on the Pymie but Registered, being the passionate angler he is, climbed aboard and, down the road we go.
Shortly thereafter we were joined on the water by Walleye Bill where we spent the rest of the day fishing, with only an occasional boat going by, in route to or from the dock.
Memories of fishing are fun but it's days like yesterday that make for some great remenicing of days on the water.
Darkness settled in as we loaded the Fish Hawk back on her bunks. A handshake, thankyou and, a hope to see you soon then, it was down the road we go.
The fishing was great, the catching not so much but hey, they are the ones missing out on a wonderful time, stupid fish!

Sounds like you guys had an enjoyable day BTDT/registered. Buddy and I tried to make it out this evening, but I was running late from work and made it there late. In the end I'm glad we did. Watched the radar and it looked like the series of small storms would miss. Picked up some bait, got to the launch, and promptly drove home as the storms converged and the sky turned black. 1 other truck parked at the launch, hopefully he made it off safe.
As far as the bite being off this year, I'm sure fishing pressure and such has an effect on it, but i'm also going to chalk it up to a wild and mild winter. I was catching crappie in February in places I don't normally hit until April. I wasn't around for the haydays of catching 30- 40 small eyes in a day, but in the past few years I have caught a lot of sub legal fish, as well as some brutes. Pymy is still a great fishery in my mind, but as outasync's buddy did, you might have to do some searching in non traditional areas

He lives in Harrusville so went down to 528 over to 422 the launch by the bridge on 528 was packed, a lot of boats out also a lot of shore fishing going on. Talked to one guy leaving about 8:00 and he said it was pretty slow....,like I said don't think I'm missing much ..... good luck guys , kinda got to pick up right ..... we hope ... like BTDT says stupid fish

Marcos good to hear your project is moving along. Heck I was probably in your neihbohood today. I was down every lane having realestate for sale signs posted on south lake road. After three hours of rubber necking , walking shorelines and talking with realtors enough was enough so, it was off to Carinis in Jamestown for a great spaghetti and sausage dinner.
Wonderful seeing you yesterday at the launch and I will be looking forward to seeing you, on the water in the future, and hearing more of your exciting fishy stories.

Good to hear your projects are coming to a end and you will soon be joining those of us who seek the ever elusive stupid fish.
You and Marcos should get together an compare construction notes. After property hunting the Pymie area, I may need a couple of qualified DIYselfers to assist me with rehabing anything I may afford.
You two guys could make repairs while I sit and drink your beer.

Guaranteed, fishing with WalleyeBill, Marcos or, registered you'll be taking home a livewell full of good time.
Chances are after spending a day fishing with one (not recommended more than 2 at a time) you will look forward to getting out the next time.

Yesterday they stocked Lil Shenango so I stopped for an hour to try my luck. The creek was muddy and high. There was a guy telling his buddy about the 68 walleye he caught at the spillway. He would catch his limit ....take them home...then go back at midnight and catch another limit. So the mysterious walleye that elude me really just aren,t there. I would like to see no fishing allowed on that wall.....just crazy with the amount of fish pulled from there. Any thoughts?

Been talking to a few people and the consensus seems to be to close the basin from the underpass to the breakwall. I don't know if it would make a huge difference or not, but it would be easier to patrol/enforce. Just a thought.

There are rumors, perhaps a few more calls to the PUFBC will encourage the idea. Than again those fishing the "circus" may well be calling, to discourage the idea. Also I would think the suppliers of Walleye fry, for stocking, would be saddened to hear a greater possibility of natural reproduction might be on the horizon .
