Would you rather catch?

Do you fish for the catch, or the challenge?

That's a trick question.  Sometimes I want a challenge, so a few fish is ok.    If I'm fishing for meat, I want the basketfull. Allot of times, the toughest challenge of them all, is fishing for a basket full of meat.

I fish to fish and have fun.  It's kind of like the "why do you fish" question you get on occassion.  The only good answer I can think of,  "if you have to ask, then you wouldn't understand anyway".

All the fish, all the time; regardless of where they are.

Hey did you change the poll, or did I not see the "depends on species" choice the first time. I demand a recount.

Yeah. I suspect that the last option would come out the winner. I like the challenge, but I also like to be successful in the challenge.

I guess I was suckered into the last option, depends on the species.  If there are a ton of bluegills around, I want to catch a ton of them....  When it come to steelies, all I want to catch is one and I am happy.  I don't even really need to land it, just hook up and play the fish for awhile.  If it spits the hook, that is fine with me.  Less of  pain having to remove the hook...  When it comes to muskie, if I land a few per season, I am happy.

It really has to depend on the species.  I do, however love a challunge.  Thats primarily why I chose muskie fishing years ago.  But I have to admit...the first time I hooked into one of them bad boys and it came toward me with its gills flared, shaking its head on the surface and looking like he wanted to eat my boat, really kinda got me addicted.  What a rush!

Any trout or Salmon will do as long as it's LARGE!But,my favorite is a Coho fresh out of Lake Ontario into the Salmon River in the fall.

I like the challenge of seeing a single trout sipping flies and trying to fool him into a take......nothing better

    Spoon,
For me it would have to be a few fish.  I rarely keep anything I catch except perch & walleye, and then only enough for a meal (for 30).  I'd rather spend a day on a brookie creek and fool 5-6 natives into taking a surface fly .  With steelhead, 4-5 a day is great.  With pelletheads,  40-60 a day caught & released is good.  What I really like to do is wander the creeks on opening day and find a kid/kids who aren't having much luck and <if possible> get them in to some fish on a fly rod.  The excitment on a kids' face when they get a fish on a fly rod is priceless.
Bass all C&R, Muskie C&R, Smallies C&R.  The only way I would keep a fish is if it were a wall hanger. (Trophy)
