Wilhelm Update 2015..................

Fished from 9:45 am til 8:00 pm on 06/03/15 and I'm here to tell you my brother and I had a good time catching crappie, gills and, bass.  We shoved off from launch #4 and began catching fish in the lily pad filled bay 100 yds to the east along the north shore.  First toss of a 1/32 oz jig tipped with a green curly tail brought fish to the boat and the catching stayed constant all day long!    After boating several crappie and bass, we decided fishing in the east wind would not be to our liking so, in hope of finding some sheltered areas, we motored toward the dam.  Just past launch #4 along and tight to the south shore we found some relief where our lines hit the water and once more produced fish.  It didn't matter if we vertical jigged, tossed and dropped or, swam our bait.... tight lines were had.  Eventually the wind began to die down so we decided to check out the action in the deeper water closer to the dam.  The wind, unfortunately didn't cooperate and, while not unbearable, began once again to mess with boat control and jigging with UL tackle.  No big deal as there are several bay area's where we could find shelter and continued to catch fish.

Just as exciting was, the weeds we saw growing in many areas and some in 5 to 6 FOW, yeah, green healthy weeds.  Also, we saw nooooooo schools of shad busting the surface as we have in past years, how exciting is that??

Gotta make a small confession here about the fish though.  Oh, it is no lie we caught fish all day long butttttttt we only caught six greater than 9" and two of them were Large Mouth Bass.

But hey............. even if we hadn't caught a single fish, it was still a marvelous day being on Lake Wilhelm fishing with my brother.

Nice report BTDT.  A day full of small fish is still a fun day for a lot of us.  How many boats were out there?  The times I've fished there were never very busy.  Typically more shore guys around the causeway than boats.

I just wrote on another thread that there's probably some secret action at Wilhelm.  Dink crappie won't draw a crowd, but it is nice to hear that the lake is bouncing back.

Thanks guys, it was a great day.

Sam, I gotta say the last couple of years the fishing pressure on Wilhelm has been nothing like I've seen in past years.  Even the bait shops or at least the one, out of four, that remains (and it is for sale) doesn't do the business it once did.

I spoke with a couple of other fishing dudes and they reported the same scenario, lots but small.  One boat was trying for walleye but, had nothing to report.

I think I may have discovered the problem:

CROCKAGATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, while I'm on the subject of Wilhelm.........  Looks like access to the park is going to be screwed up by road construction  For yinz coming in from Rt 19 and using Georgetown Road ya might wana check cause it looks like Georgetown will be closed starting at Vacationland and running west.

Had a really terrific day on another lake today and more on that later.

All this fishing the past two days I might have to change my handle to DragonAzz.  But, who's complaining?

I've never seen nets with plastic bottles on them. Usually the pfbc have bright orange bouys on them and I've only seen them used to gather eggs for the hatchery.
Last year we hardly saw any shad I think the extra walleye and musky stocking has done a number to them at least I hope! And hopefully they keep the stocking numbers up to keep them in check.

This.  Although istr you need to label your jugs.  People in other states will jug for catfish also, but you can't do that in PA.

My fishing experiences on Wilhelm always tended to be long periods of inaction until you find a school of crappie and then you could sink the boat.  Been a good long while since I fished there though.

Not sure bout the jugs but I've seen them in the little bay off the dam. They were back in off the lake couldn't see unless you went back into the bay. Didn't see nets but didn't look that closely, all I know one morning about 6:30 I hit the bay & there was 2 guys in a boat back there checking them to me just looked like lines tied to the jugs figured jugs were weighed down. They seems surprised to see me as I was to see them didn't ask any questions just left. Went to launch 1 , trolled back to dam then checked things out they were gone so was the jugs ....

Where would you post a story about Wilhelm; on a thread about Lake Arthur?   Anyway thanks for blowing the snapper fishing idea(s), out of the water.

I was gonna give it a go but this WSW wind is gusting much to heavy for me.  Looking at the next seven days, doesn't look good weather wise, not that I'm a "fair weather angler" mind you.  Stupid wind!!!
