# thrust question...

What # thrust trolling motor should I get for a 16 ft.  Jon boat and not be too much overkill?
30, 40, 45, 50, 55  # thrust    I just want to troll small lakes.

    You'll get a bit more run time at say 50% with a 55# than 100% with a 30#.

    Well, it is a little more involved than that. The larger motor will draw more amps, but they tend to have a larger prop moving your boat better. So for your direct question will the larger motor run longer that the smaller motor at slow speed, probably not (will a 6 liter truck motor run long than a 1.5 liter car motor with a 5 gallon gas tank) The larger motor will move you better at slower speeds. 
     
    How ever the larger motor like everyone else is saying will not need to be held WFO to get you to move where you want to be moved. That is where the bigger motor save you electrons.
     
    A 12 volt motor can go for a good while on a standard group 27 battery, if you were worried about the range of the motor.
