Spooking fish with a trolling motor

I have a canoe with a trolling motor attached to it(the thing flies), and I was wondering if the motor spooks fish?  I assume when I am on top of the fish, they are most likely spooked by the motor/boat, but does the motor disturbance spook fish from 20' away?  Just curious how close I can get to fish before I am doing more harm then good.  Thanks.

I guess that would depend on what you are fishign for.

In a small river fishing for highly pressured trout, i would say ditch the motor.

If going for musky, I would say ditch the electric and put on a gas motor and run baits in the prop wash.

I think you will no issue with fishing normal conditions. Just about every boat that has casters run electric motors and there really isnt any issues with people not getting fish.
