Lampe is the best bet for open water anglers. No Bay and Channel to deal with. Most of the Marinas I found in the Bay were much more expensive, but had ammenties like Tiki Bars and restraunts. To me it wasn't worth the money. Lampe was I believe $730 for my 20' boat and most in the Bay were over $1K. I did not check PI but I think they are cheaper (With 2 no wake zones to get to the lake).w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

Lampe is filthy from the coke plant.  Check Bay Harbor.  Tell them Mike Stouffer sent you

Most of them will also rent a dock space for a few day's at a time. Of course Walnut is the closest to the Trench's. I think they only allow boats up to 22ft. and it would probably take 15yrs to get one. Some of the best Charter guy's dock in the Bay. I dock in the bay and I like it, because if the Lake is too rough and I have some friends with me or my son and grankids, we can drift around the bay for some bass, etc. and their time in Erie won't be wasted.

My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!

It appears that the coke plant may have made some improvements since the EPA came down on them. Some soot still makes its way over to Lampe but I think it's getting better. Just my opinion (and I hope I'm right)

I've been in Lampe for 5 years and fish exclusively in the open waters. I'm happy with the marina for my needs. As far as the soot from the coke plant the first few years it was bad but the last two it has been almost nonexistent. I'm pretty fanatical about keeping my boat clean and it no longer is a problem. Some of the boats on the ends of the docks do have problems with ducks and gulls tho.

Lampe is the best location I know of for being as close to being dead center between the trenches and the mountain. I never docked there, but I've launched there many times. I used to keep my boat in the Port Authority East storage facility. If you dock in PI bay, you have alot of no wake zone to deal with. I would occaisionally rent a transient slip at Wolverine marina when I was going to stay at Erie for the weekend. Wolverine has a nice shower / bath facility, plus it's a close walk to Run Runners. If you plan to sleep aboard your boat at Lampe, you'll hear alot of noise coming from that plant all night long.
