Trolling rods ? Dipsy's ?

About to order our trolling rod combos. Going with the Cabela's depthmasters. What length is recommended by you guys for running off the boards and dipsy's? Also what line & lb test to spool em up with?

What style/size dipsy's do we need?

I like 7-7 1/2' for boards and 8-10' for dipsies.  I run 30# powerpro on dipsy rods and various combinations of braid, mono, fluoro, and lead core on my board rods.  I like Gamma for leader material.  There are lots of choices for mono backing/mainline (Ande, Big game work fine).

4 or 6 of both size 0 small dipsies and size 1 large dipsies will get you started.  Size 0 for early season and high suspending eyes later in the season.  Size 1 will get you down to the thermocline as the season progresses.  At times when either size will get you to the target depth, I prefer to go with the smaller dipseys with longer leads to get away from the boat.

Depthmaster rods are fine, if you plan on fishing more than a few times a year I would rethink the reel choices.

Actually, their Depthmaster Gold line is made by Daiwa, I believe. They are pretty much the same price as the Sealines. The Depthmaster II are similar in quality to the AccuDepth line of Daiwa...
