I dunno. This is my first season fishing. I've gotten a few bites at a local stream the past couple of weeks and I may try a couple of other spots down by Ohiopyle.

I can let you know by Monday.

anywhere that got fish this fall, or spring for that matter.  Just go look you'd be suprised what you'll find.  Go to meadow run, the entire length for some good holdovers, and of course the river always has em, and places that are FFO or DHALO should usually hold fish.  Go take a walk, despite it being winter its business as usual underwater for a stocked trout

The local Delayed Harvest wasn't stocked this fall as usual because they told me they didn't have enough fish and thats the only place around where i can fish fall-winter, forget about going to stocked lakes, its just not the same as stream fishing for them, I always hear about Meadow Run but i don't know where it is and i know the Yough always has fish but everytime i went fall/winter, it was always raging rapids cause they were letting lots of water out of the lake.

    Hey Ronnie:

Which particular Delayed Harvest stream are you talking about?  Pretty much every one gets trout in the fall.

In some years, you'd be pretty surprised at what holds over from the spring stockings.  I dunno about this year with the late summer drought, but last year I was catching trout into January till the creek froze.  This particular stream got one pre-season stocking and one in-season stocking in early May.  Haven't tried yet this fall, but plan to hit it in the next couple of weeks.  You might not catch a bunch, but last fall I was usually getting 2 or 3 an outing.

Pikes Run, when i saw it wasn't on the schedule as usual, i emailed the fish commission why they wasn't and in my words after a detailed description from them it was basically an explanation that they don't have any fish to stock it, even when they do stock it, they only stock 2 holes out of the whole 1 mile stretch of the section, then you add the illegal keepers, fish that die from carelessness, and theirs usually hardly any to fish for and add heavy pressure to them and they won't hit anything, as for holdovers down where i live, not really, water gets too warm and low in the summer, if we go up around Ligonier where my cousins camp is, theres fishing all year long up there since most of the creeks are springs.

the out flows at the yough is tits this time of year for browns. Its some of the best waters to fish this time of year for it hardly ever freezes and its kept some what lower when most streams are blown out.

Whatever catches trout will catch fish there, i went up in feb this year and as i said it was raging rapids, freezing cold, every cast had ice in the eyes of your rod and your waders would freeze to the ground if you sat down when they were wet, decided to try to Laurel Hill since ther river was high, creek had chunks of ice comin down thru and wasn't fishable, then my blazer blew an intake gasket on Humbert road between the covered bridge and route 281, what fun that was, antifreeze all gone, all leaked out, no cell phone service, 2 hours from home and its starting to snow really bad, so i gunned it to the farmer guy that owns all the cornfields along Humbert and he let me use his phone and wait in his house for 2 hours until my dad made it up to the rescue, but anyways i was planning on going up next Sunday to the outflow and Confluence area, anyone been up lately ?

Well Ive had good luck so far on egg patterns  recently there. My friend only throws rapalas there and lost a hell of a fish on a jointed rainbow trout pattern rapala. When they only release a little bit of water at a time say in early feb nite crawlers worked last year. This months hot flies for me there were larger stone flys with either sucker spawn or glow bug trailer or san jaun worm. Caught a few hungry rainbows no size on estaz eggs.

Last time i was out(3 weeks ago) was deer creek.  It was way too low, and I didn't see any-or catch any.
The yough is prob. the best bet, most of sw pa stinks for trout in my opinion.

Right now it's steelhead all the way.  But if you want to fish the outflow at confluence in the cold when the fishing is good and on most people's backburner, wait until February.  By the way, are you now employed by NS?

Here's one from the USGS. It'll give you flow rates, disolved oxygen, temprature, and all of the good stuff that data junkies crave. Tables, graphic overlays...

Its always wade at your own risk I say. the bottom always seems to be slimy and the current always fast. its a great river to always carry a wading staff. but with it being such a large stream you dont have to fish  it all at once. There can be some nice pockets real close to shore.

yeah, kyler is right.  And also, the levels can and DO rise and fall throughout the day, so looking on  the website doesn't guarantee it will be the same level when u are there.  They send out a buzzer/signal whenever the level is about to change, so fisherman know to be ready.  There's really no reason at confluence to EVER wade above your waist anyway.  there are fish all through there.  If you find that water is above your hips, chances are you have chased some fish away.

Over 2000cfs, probably shouldn't even attempt to wade it.  1500-2000cfs tricky wading but not too dangerous.  Under 1500cfs would be more typical flows.  Under 800, these are low flows and wading is relatively easy.  The most difficult part of wading confluence is all the algae covering the rocks.  At any level extreme caution should be used this time of year, a fall now is a whole different ball game than one in the summer. Also, as fisherofmen stated alot of the fish hold fairly close to the banks, there really isnt a huge need to wade out over your knees.
