Vice Advice

Well, it's Christmas time and I'm in the market for a new vice.  I really don't want to spend more that 300 bux.  I've been looking at the dyna-kings particularly the Barracuda Junior.  Just wondering what you guys are using and if there is anything I should be looking for?

I think you will get alot of opinions on this one.  Just like do you like fords or chevys?  I tie on a regal.  They are often called the bulldog of vices.  You can also get 3 different size jaws for them.  A standard jaw, midge jaw and a saltwater jaw.  The only problem with them is they will spit a small hook (22 to 28's) out of the vice if not seated properly.  I have not had this problem with the midge jaw.  Last winter I tied with 18 other tyers at a fly tyers roundtable and 13 of the tyers were using Regals, 2 renzettis, 3 baracuda jrs, and 1 law vice.
Your next question will be pedestal or C clamp!

I've been using an HMH standard for the past few years. I have both the micro jaws and the standard jaws. I think its pretty hard to beat, but there are a lot of good ones out there.

Like Green Weenie said.  Regal all the way.  I have both the standard jaws and the stainless jaws.  Love them both, but my favorite is the stainless.  They hold small stuff better than the standard.  I only use the standard to tie big streamers and such.  The stainless are not supposed to be used for hooks larger than I think 8.

Get as good a rotary that you can afford. You wouln't be sorry. You will end up getting one sooner or later. Might as well get it right off the bat.

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

I have been using a Regal rotary for about 15 years.  I bought a Renzetti traveler two years ago, thinking I would start using it more, but I  have stayed with the Regal.  I am sure you may hear more about this, but if you choose Regal, make sure you seat the hooks properly in it, or it will eject them, and possibly chip the jaws on your vise.

Whats the difference between the barricuda and the barracuda junior. is it just size?  where can I see these at?  You got a heck of a deal at $140 bux.
