Which sonar/gps ?

Looking to purchase a sonar/gps.  Will be fishing all waters but looking for a decent sonar/gps for Erie also.  Not looking to spend thousands but would like something decent.  Which do you guys recommend ?  Also where to buy ?  Thanks for your help !

About $350 will buy you an Eagle/Lowrance FishElite 480. I've had one for several years, works great and no problems. It may have been replaced with a new model this year, but you can probably find a few around if you look. There are some decent priced Humminbirds out there, but my luck with them hasn't been good. Personally I've had good experience with Lowrance support, but you will get mixed reviews from folks. I think it's the old "happy customers don't spread news as much as unhappy ones". Good luck in your search...

i have never had a lowerance but have heard good things about them. i use humminbird and have no problems.  i picked up a fishfinder/gps combo with lake software for a very reasonable price.  it you are tight with cash look for last year models.  they are just as good and will be far less expensive than the models for this year

I get my electronics off eBay from a marine dealer, heck Reeds Sporting Goods in Walker, MN sells on eBay too and some of their eBay prices are cheaper than there online websites prices. Can't beat the prices and as much as you hear about supporting the forum sponsors etc. For the amount of money I am spending on the unit, I am not giving it away either. I bought a Lowrance HDS-7 & LSS-1 (Structurescan) off eBay & saved just under $200 for my Starcraft. Sold that boat & just bought a Lund and just got a Humminbird 1198c for $2,199.00 tax free & free shipping & it msrp's at $2,799.99. Best price I seen anywhere other than that was off www.universalmania.com which has good prices too, the 1198c was goin there for $2,349.00 but out of stock at the moment. Also any warranty work is going back to factory, not back to seller regardless of who you buy it from.

I found my 1197CSI with the navionics bundle on Amazon.com last fall for $1999. with free shipping. They only had 2 and when i went back, 15 minutes later, the other one was gone. Saved myself over a thousand bucks so i'm selling my 987CSI that i had on my trolling motor for $650 bucks. Comes complete with the manual and antenna. Works perfectly. Just couldn't pass up an upgrade for a price like that. PM me if interested and i'll pull it out and take pics for you. A buddy was going to buy it but has been dragging his feet so maybe someone else may want it.
