Sharpsburg Launch Ramp

Sharpsburg launch ramp: can anyone give an update on this project? Can the ramp be used currently? Are there parking places available?

The ramp can be used. I'll try & check if the parkin lot is gonna be paved this month or next spring, tomarrow.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I really would like to fish the dam, but I'm only aware of the Pgh south side ramp---and the ride to the dam is too far for my boat. Any further info is REALLY appreciated.

The info. I got today, the parkin lot will be paved in the spring. The new ramp for canoes & yaks was finnished last week. They are gonna try & get some more $$ for a fishin peer like the ones at the ocean. A dock is in, the wall is done & the lights are up, another dock is in the works. One day they say the parkin will open & the next day the guy from Sharpsburgh  changes his mind. No reason the parkin lot could not be used at this time but it is still closed.

If you get there early there is enough parkin for 2 - 3 trailers on the side street.
        Another wall is being discussed.

    Good Luck,
        Crappy

Warning!!!!!! this ramp costed me 200.00 dollars last weekend, the sign says ramp ends in 20 feet, it lies, i was only in about 10 feet and bam the trailer fell off the end of ramp, needless to say, bent axle hitch and tongue, not a good morning, i was able to get the wheel straight enough to get home but needed to replace axle. my question is why in the world don't they fill in at the end of ramp, big culvert rock would be the best choice.

is it a permanent sign or does it look like something that may be removed when the lot/launch is totally finished? i dont doubt anything pa does with launches, especially the 3 rivers. if it wasnt for the bassmasters classic i'm sure southside would still rank as one of the nations worst. could they be waiting till spring to lower the water and finish? never heard of a sign like that on pa waters.

It is  permanent sign, really dumb why it was built the way they did, but it does look very nice, and fishing was slow.

is there a large dropoff in depth at the end of the ramp where they cannnot add more concrete or rock? maybe theyre going to pull a leetsdale borough and wait until they get enough complaints and claim they dont have enough $$$ to build and maintain the launch site. then the borough will charge a fee to use it(like leetsdale). dock of the bay charged/charges and Pete(rest his soul) used to charge $5 to launch.

The launch was poured by a contractor. I'll let our heavy equip. engineer know about the problem if you are nice to walcat for one week. He & his students have been workin at no cost (towards the grant $$) (except for the fuel) on that project since it started.

wow, very nice of the contractor to do that. hopefully, however, it is something that can be fixed. t

wallyeyes, how big is your boat/length of trailer? just trying to gauge how far to back in.

my boat is 19 feet, alum hull, i normally back in till it floats, maybe 10 feet, the water here gets deep fast, we didn't get that far in when i noticed the trailer just fell out from under boat, the bow actually hit the bow stop when it happened, Duramax verses trailer? duramax won, we had to pick up on one side of trailer with the anchor to get to come out. this boat and trailer are 20 years old and this has never happened before.

Well 20' would be ok, but when the river is at normal pool, it is no where near the 20' mark! oh well it will soon be a pay ramp anyway.

hey meatball, good to hear from you. did you stop chasing the young fellas around the boards. guru is probably still having nightmares. while you have the wrong "plumbing" for me, you may want to look into walcats camper van. couple "brokeback fishermen" like yourselves could get a lot of use out of it. no offense walcat. good to see you back.

congrats, but anybody that would pay over $2000 for that van is either on some kind of major mind altering medication, or he likes to throw $$$ down the crapper in that van. im sure youll still be able to borrow it for some "brokeback fishing" rendezvous. again, congrats and cheers to you.
