Game Over
Well, it didn't exactly go as planned, but I ended my season friday evening with a great buck. Around 630pm Friday this guy came walking up along the edge of a thicket to check one of his scrapes. He was on a b-line to my stand when he made an abrupt turn and was now quartering away when I took the shot at 20 yards. My arrow hit a small twig and I had to watch my wobbling arrow impact him. I knew it hit him high and pretty far back. When I found my arrow this was confirmed to be a gut shot and because of the angle it got a little bit of liver as well. I was absolutely sick and decided to leave it be for the night and return first thing in the am. Well after an hour of searching with virtually no blood to be found, I spotted him piled up in a creek bottom about 100 yards or so from where I last saw him. Last years rack: A couple velvet shots from this summer: A few glory shots!

Sweet buck. Congrats. Is that a third antler or a drop off of the pedicel?

Thanks. It is actually a 3rd antler and looks even more gnarly in person.

Congratulations! It is a pretty neat rack. I would say he probably either had a skull injury where the extra antler sprouted about the time his antlers started growing or he split a small portion of his antler pedical very early into new antler growth. If there is no pedical under the odd antler it is probably just bone that deformed around an injury while he was growing his antlers. In any event it is a buck with interesting characteristics. Good mass too. R.S. Bodenhorn

That is a beauty esox. Congratulations. That third point looks like a pig tusk ! ..and he's got a light coat too ! Now you can spend time patroling your property - some of the tresspassing stories I hear out there are insane.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I couldn't be happier with the way my season ended. The only drawback is that my wallet is going to be $450 lighter Since I never kill bucks this early in the season I really don't what to do with my time now. Like Kype mentioned, patrolling will be a top priority for me, especially given the insane amounts of trouble we have already had this year. I have been "kicked" off our property multiple times and on Sunday my friend and 1 of 3 who hunt this property got m'effed for a good 10 minutes for posting the property and the guy told him he is hunting there no matter what , but I guess he doesn't realize the hunter in our group who spends the most time on the land is a cop Gun season will be interesting for sure. The other top priority for me is to help my 2 buddies connect with one of the brutes still running around. It sure would be nice to see all 3 of us connect on good ones this year. Good luck to the archers for the remainder of the season, prime time is just around the corner!
