Yep, typical chuck and duck set-up for snagging. See the exaggerated lift at the end, that's when the fish are hooked and he thinks we think he is just taking the line out.

Now I know why I'm only a 10% er  and sometimes all the way up to 50/50. My usual manner would be to let the fly go all the way downstream from me and then roll cast back to the run. Learn from the pros.

i'd say he's fishing the right spot but i would be standing maybe 10 foot upstream and casting a little further out with less weight and letting it come across just inside the edge of that rapid there and that would be the prime zone for me.... maybe even casting on a 45 degree angle at times to let the fly gently swing through instead of being swept through... make it hover slowly through that prime zone... and yes i would say that that lift at the end is a DEC ticket waiting to happen.

I'd say border line DEC ticket, from what I've seen they really go after the guy's that are unquestionable, we certainly know what he is doing, but DEC usually look for the guy's with the full on jerk in the middle or end of drift.

Enough said for this guy's 15 minutes of fam...... I mean flounder.

The humping the rod motion clinches it. This video is like watching a 13 year old. Some people never mature. If this guy is seriously a guide I hope he shows that video to every prospective client.

maybe from me 20 years ago..lol... 20 years ago thats mostly all you'd see. things have definitely changed since then... even when fishing faster water like that i prefer a loose drift with a weight forward floating line to create more of a natrual presence instead of a swift sweep. that rip at the end is pretty classic. yes, DEC is usually looking for worse, but that guy cuold easily get a ticket...

That was my first reaction, too. Looks like a 3.0 oz pyramid sinker. I use less weight catfishing.

The funny thing about it is that the guy was not "Blatently snagging or lifting", and as others have stated correctly, DEC fish cops would have walked right by him.

Sure, the guy is an idiot and should know better if he is a guide, but he fits right in with 95% of the other SR experts playing the same game.

Well then, in that case, you should have done a better job of "CLEANING UP DODGE CITY" back in your Sherrifin days.... but I'm sure your Superiors told you to back off because you would have chased 98% of the fishermen away from the SR... (after youze guys changed the rules and stopped encouraging folks from RIPPIN with CRICKET ROCKETS).

p.s. - if you consider that as Blatent Snagging and Ripping, you are sadly mistaken.

p.s.s.- WCO's/DEC do not oversee NY Guides... But I guess you knew that......

Keep sending them RAT messages into Command Central. Maybe they'll pull you out of retirement and add your name & # to the back of a LOTAC card....

That WAS blatant ripping---BIG reef at the end of EVERY drift---I don't get bit every drift--do you? And what's w/ the rod sweeping downstream?

DrakeTrutta......cyber bully...always looking for a fight.......don't oversee NY Guides??? All I stated was that the guy is a guide and should be held to a higher standard......and that snagging is snagging no matter who is doing it, but with a guide---held to a higher standard.......wasn't reporting him for being a shoddy guide.....reported it because he was doing what he was doing.....snagging reported to DEC......all else to forest rangers or some ****.....right??? since they regulate the guide aspect of it......

and DUDE.....retired conservation officer ..........NOT DEC officer........get with it...Hmmpfff

and where I worked---snagging was snagging.......and a ticket was written......superiors were rather happy......

PA resident........and sorry dude......everyone wants the Salmon River to be some pristine destination, world class angling type of place........if you want that......then enforce the rules on the book......if in any way, shape or form that GUIDE was fishing........well, then I must be really doing it wrong.......I'd rather the salmon take my fly vs. my fly take the salmon in the Azz

and most of all who chimed in on his TECHNIQUE for fishing the salmon river video, stated a he was snagging, lifting, certainly a ticket......

    my goodness man..........THINK

    last breath wasted on DrakeTrutta..........

I don't make 6 casts per minute like a mini Texas Oil Rig either - just not my style.

But if you were to visit the "oil fields" of the Ball Park just below where that guide was located, you would see that the practice is commonly practiced in plain view of everyone - including the DEC that ignore it.

Lots of "Eyes of the Needles" that need threadin there...

Blatent rippers?? - go park a lawn chair at the Trestle and watch the Russians at work......

2bone - flash your badge to someone that gives a ****.
You want to impress me and alot of other folks - send an email to the DEC and tell them to start cracking down on the clearly blatent illegal behavior in easily accessible spots along the SR.

I make no bones or contentions to transform the Salmon River into some pristine place. It is what it is. A man-made cash register.
And I will continue to laugh at the so-called altar boys and C&R cretins that want to change the world, but don't have the sack necessary to
confront someone on the river face to face but instead run to the internet to complain after calling the 1-800-RATLINE..

The SR - unnaturally stacked with tons of fish so that thousands of folks will visit the area and stick fish in the face so they get a chub..Yes - I am one of them chubhunters....

Funny how Chuck & Duck was widely advertised as the best method to hook into the SR beasts in the very recent past.

Too bad NY outlawed the sale of small lead shot - that shiney tin crap he had on his line only made the splash more dramatic on film....

Good thing I live in Pa and have boxloads of the real thing....

Yeah. DT- you are mistaken on the he wasn't lifting thing. Maybe an officer would walk by, but the fact is the guy was ripping every drift.
