Lamson

Searched in the history, nothing came up on Lamson.

Anyone have or use the new Lamson Velocity 3X, 3.5 or the

new Lamson Litespeed 3X, 3.5 reels.

Thanks in advance.

The Litespeed is a fantastic reel. The drag is silky smooth. I like the finish on these reels as well.

i have last years velocity model, hard alox I versions 1 and 3.5.  i really like these reels.  the drag is smooth with no inertia and the reel is super light, i put the 3.5 on a 7wt for steel and it works great. i also have a 1.5 radius and LP2 and i will buy more lamsons.

I have the 3.5 Velocity. I've used it for steel and kings and it performs flawlessly. I also have a 2.0 Velocity and several Radiuses (Radii?). I love 'em all. the drag is fantastic. these are some of the best, most dependable reels going IMO.

BTW - you can also use them in the salt with no problem. The conical drag is a sealed system.

I have a Lamson Hard Alox V2. They have pretty good drags on them, but other than that they are nothing special IMO. I still haven't figured out why everyone raves about them. I would prefer just about any Ross(NOT Ross Worldwide) or Orvis reel to them.

I have a Waterworks Force reel (same drag), and a purist (click and pawl). They're both great.

Seems like the conical drag system is the difference. The body is still bar stock 6011(?) aluminum. The anodized 3, hard alox, does make a big difference on the Lamson though.

I too have Orvis, Fin-Nor and others, but the drag system on the Lamson seems way ahead of everyone else.

Thanks for all the input so far. Still deciding between the Velocity 3Xand Litespeed 3X for steel.

in my opinion the only difference between the V and LS is weight in the X series, they have the exact same drag system. the LS 3X is a 0.2 oz lighter than same sized V. also make sure the reel balances your rod because it is so light. I have a V 3.5 on a 10ft 7wt. i like the extra diameter of the larger reel and i get a ton more backing.

Im a big salt water fisher and have reels by Billy Pate, Tibor, Islander and Fin Nor,Pand Penn. I bought a litespeed two years ago and i think its made as well as the mentioned reels at half to one third the price. It is quality and has the best drag system on the planet bar none. Lamson advertises the same high end drag in every reel made. I've checked their lineup and their claim is true. Buy one any model you wont be sorry. The 23rd ill be on the tribs with a litespeed screwed to a St. Croix in a 8 weight and a big smile on my face.

I agree with all good opinions about the lamson litespeed 3.0 I have. I fish a 10' 8wt and I could have bought the bigger 3.5 or even 4.0. Drag is awesome in icy rivers and saltwater by my experience. had it 6 years now.
Customer service was also great. I had an issue after a saltwater use with the drag froze up. I called, and shipped it to them. They replaced drag and shipped it back with no questions asked. I got it back in 2 weeks. They also gave me a tag to the shipping. I would buy another if it ever wears out.

i can also comment on the service.  i bought the 3.5 used on ebay.  when i got it i found the reel foot was bent, like it was dropped.  i called them to buy a new one, they said to send it back because you need a specially designed tool to get at the screws, bad angle possibly strip screw head.  so i sent it back with the prescribed $20 handling charge and got a new reel foot and they also replaced the drag.  they will replace the drag a any time you ask, just for the $20 handling charge.

I have the Guru 2.5 on my 6wt for steelhead. It's a great reel and the drag is phenomenal.

Thanks for the help guys. Always a great forum to ask questions before making a purchase or a decision.

Picked up an older Lamson Litespeed LS 3.5, never used, new in box. Lamson is sending me the new stainless clutch to replace the original one. Great company. They said the only difference is the hard alox 3 coating vs the anaodized 2 on the older model, a bit heavier also. OK I guess for 200.00 bucks.

For erie sthd I have a Lamson LS 3, hard alox 3.75" spool diam. for my single hand rod and a LS 3.5, 4" spool diam. for my 2 hand rod. For a mid priced reel, around $350, They are a very good choice and I have had no problems whatsoever with these reels over the past 3 years. I fish sthd a lot, 80-90 days a year and really like these reels.

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the lamson konic, I am looking to get into flyfishing and I want a descent reel but I can't go over the $150 mark..... my kids like to eat.... Any thoughts? Right now I have a really cheap rig that is a 6-7 weight eagle claw with a sceintific angler reel, cheap I know but we all have to start somewhere.

    Thanks

konics are a cast Al reel and not machined, but still has the same drag system as the more expensive models.  my cousin has 1 and i know he's nocked it around a good bit, he frequently slips and fallls, and has had not had any problems with it.  the orvis bbs would also be a good choice in that price range.

Cast reels work just fine. I have two of the older Orvis cast reels. Rock mountain and a Rocky Mountain LA, both cassette reels and they both function great.

Waterworks Lamson is a stand up company. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a Konic.
