Fall Turkey Season
Went out for turkeys this morning with my uncle. This was his first time turkey hunting since about 15 years ago when a very close friend of his was killed by someone who "thought he was a turkey". After walking about 10 minutes, we scattered a flock without even trying. About 10 minutes after we got set up, I called in 3 hens to him, and he filled his tag. After recovering his bird, I set up to kill one with my bow. Within another 15 minutes, I had the boss hen of the flock within 60 yds, clucking and cackling, but not coming any closer. I then got a call out of my vest called a turkey duster kee kee call. I had it for 2 years and hadnt tried it until this year. I called with it once, then, the hen ran toward me, and stopped at 30 yds. I released my arrow, to watch it richochet off a tiny twig and disapear into the trees. The turkey also disapeared into the trees. A complete miss, but a great experience. How'd everyone else do?

Thats awesome, I went out to hunt for deer, got up in a tree, started doing the rocking business and got back out 45 mins later and left. When I picked my bow up, I noticed my sight was loose. I was glad I didnt take a shot at anything. I grabbed a turkey call on the way out the door. I hit it a few times but wasnt out long enough to see if it would pan out. I hear its hard to kill a turkey from a treestand. I can honestly say Ive never had them come in shooting range while being in one.

I had 9 within range on Thursday. Too bad it they weren't in season. The lead bird busted me without me moving. I didn't have camo on. I probably couldn't have gotten a shot off; too many eyes in too open of an area.

While archery hunting had birds in range Thurs and Fri. Went in with the shot gun on Sat to make sure I got one and did not have a shot. Going back to the area with the bow tonight looking for a buck but hoping for a turkey. Have missed a turkey the last two years with the bow, keep judging the distance wrong on the turkey. Have great sucess with deer but I guess they are easier to judge distance. Good luck and be safe.

Can turkeys see colors as vibrantly as us? Mainly blaze orange... I think they might after hunting this weekend. Anybody know?

Nothing here yet, haven't even found any really good sign yet. No problem, I have almost all 3 weeks to hunt. Funny thing, I had 2 shooter bucks at less than 20 yds yesterday, was chasin turkeys.....isn't that always the way?

Yep, it always goes that way for me! My archery hunting friends see all the turkeys and I see all the bucks, I gave archery up about 5 years ago!

Here's a question for you. You can hunt turkeys with a bow. Do you need an archery tag? Does the archery tag license you to "hunt deer with a bow" or "hunt all game with a bow"?? Would you need an archery tag to hunt only turkeys with a bow??

If you use a bow to hunt any game, you need an archery license.

Mika, I believe you're wrong as you only need a archery license to hunt deer or bear in the archery seasons. archery gear is usable for all other species in all other seasons. Mike

went out deer hunting today.... i heard the little buggers comin from a mile away i got ready and about 50 yards away they changed there course... i waited about another hour and and got down and i saw them walking out... there were atleast 3-4 jakes and the rest hens...i took a shot at the one and completly missed. He walked out from the bush in front of me i thought it was an easy 20-21 yard shot it turned out to be a 34 yard shot. Yeah i must say i felt stupid after missing it. atleast he didnt get wounded....
