Yep, we got a bunch. I was on Elk at first light--uh, first slightly brighter shade of gray. Creek was turning when I left.

    Great sight for here: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMap.aspx

I caught one huge shiner minnow on sucker spawn. Closest to Chrome that I got.

Dude, nothing wrong with Shiners! I was fishing the Neshannock in October like 5 or 6 years ago. There were some fish rising in a pocket upstream and across from the NCFlyshop. I started out with a size 16, can't remember what, but I remember I got down to a 24 gnat before they took my fly. It was a Shiner, probably 7 inches long. I caught a few more, and it was a blast. Then again, that was on a 3 weight, not exactly a steelhead rod.

Yep, that would have been fun on a 3 weight. As a kid i did more creek chub fishing than trout fishing--even though I called it trout fishing.

A #24 gnat? I used to tie those--again when I was a kid. You would have laughed to watch me try to tie on a #10 crystal meth this morning. I had my red light on it, my glasses way down on my nose so that I could look over them, my bad eye closed, my head cocked so that my rain hood would still keep the rain off my face, the fly was about 2 inches from my face and it still to 10 minutes to get the line through the eye of the hook.

I was thinking about something like that myself. Either that or run a loop of line through the eye while its on the vise and leave it there so that I can just pull the line through with it.

it doesnt have to rain in erie as long as they get good rain south of erie which we got and besides on the 5 oclock news they said erie got 1.5 inches between last night and today. why do you guys have to try to b.s. people from out of the area are you that greedy. theres plenty of water to bring in more fish check out the water gauge and flow gauge on wallnut. flow was over 500 last time i checked this after noon.

Agreed...the whole "water table" here is lower than I have ever seen it. Even when the creeks blow out...they'll be back to gin clear trickles in a day till the "earth" gets saturated or frozen.

Did some fish come in/move with the rain....sure they did....and you can fish for them in a gin trickle this weekend..

    Happy now?

I've never seen them this low... and believe me. With no more rain they'll be right back to where they were in another day or two.

It's actually not all that uncommon, I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal or saying they have "never" seen the tribs this low.  It seems pretty common to me to fish low gin clear trickles with no flow at all at times in the tribs.

Everyone knows the creeks have always run off in 1 - 2 days.  That's normal before there is snow on the ground.  Can someone back me up here?   Or is it really that much worse than normal?

I agree SS. It is still early and low flows are the norm at this stage of the "season."

The creeks will run off quicker this time of year mainly because of the trees/vegetation sucking in lots of water. Once the leaves drop and the veggies go "dormant" more water will reach the aquifer. It is going to take more than a couple quick shots of rain now to establish some better flows.

The "I have never seen the creeks this low" thread has officially emerged for 2010. It wouldn't be the same without it.

The streams have been MUCH lower than they have been so far this season. Anyone remember fall 2007? Now THAT was low water. This year seems like a pretty normal fall to me...

+1.  me and halupka had a good laugh the other day about how this happens every single year.  hell,  i was in erie on the 20th and the creeks were crazy low, but i have seen them much, much lower.

    october 2007 was unforgettably low

    Fall of 1985.

Walked down the middle of the creek from Millfair to 20 and never got my shoe laces wet. We were drag racing our 4x4's on streuchen Flats.
