There are always fish in the river in August. It's nice, peaceful, no crowds and if you hook-up, it's icing on the cake. With that said, you have to really fish for fish in August, work the water and cover a lot of it.
The biggest difference in August fishing, for Kings that is, is that if you do hook up, they are hot at the take and first run but quickly tire and often succumb to the temperature after the release. No comparison to a King caught when the water temperatures start dropping and when there is more water in the river.
I fish the SR every summer, looking for Skams and Atlantics, come August usually find and hook-up 1-2 Kings a day, depending upon temps and water levels. That's fine by me, it's all about expectations.
