Clogged inlet grate ?

Was running the upper Allegheny over the weekend with the Tracker 18 jet. Bad move on my part,I idled through some weeds and clogged the inlet grate with weeds. I couldn't talk the GF into swimming under the boat and pulling the weeds out. Didn't have a weed rake with me either. Had to pull boat out and remove weeds. Any suggestions on how to remove weeds from my Tracker Pro 18 Jet /120 HP inboard jet while in the water?

Ya pretty much have 3 choices. Get wet, do what you did, or run without the grate & chop some salad. Problem with #3 is the risk of sucking up a rock.

Sucking up a large rock will definitely ruin your day. Been there did that even with the hydro-surge grate. Switched over to a closer tine grate with no spring and no rocks. Looks like I'm going to have to mfg a grate rake to pull weeds from grate.

Click the back button, from where you are now. Toward the top of the page, just above where it says thread starter it will say ( display topics from ), then some number of days. You can click on the arrow, and then choose how many day you want to go back.

Go to Weigel Brothers and buy a rake. I was up the Allegheny in Kennerdale this past friday the weeds are horrible! I have a stainless fold up rake that reaches under and pulls the weeds out. We use it often this time of the year through the winter. If you arent running hard alot of times if you kill the engine the weeds will drop back out of the grate. My Tracker jet had a 185 and I sometimes could turn left or right in reverse while goosing the throttle a couple time and it would clear up enough to run again. Good luck and be careful in "The Skinny"

Hey thanks, I going to when I get a chance and they are open. For now the GF bought a "Dora the Explorer" plastic kids rake and attached to a piece of PVC. Works pretty good, LOL

If you suck the weeds up while running hard the plastic rake probably will not work. They get pretty tight in the grate. Good luck and I'll probably see you sometime if you fish from Brady to Oil City. We run a 21 foot blue Jetcraft with loud exhaust.
