4wt opinions wanted: reels & lines

I've got a 4wt rod on the way. 9'0", fast. I have a reel and line from my glass 7' 4wt that I can use for now, but I'll eventually be getting a reel and some line to suit this rod. Looking at Vosseler reels as a possibility. Anyone had any experience with em? For lines, no idea. Thinking of trying a smaller name, or one of the brands from Europe. Suggestions?

if you got a fast rod you want to use a 4wt. line that is rated a half wt. heavier like SA gpx.
i have this on my 6wt. winston rod and it loads the rod with better feel. i guess you can use a wt. heavier line, 5wt., but that's all up to you.
i use a 4wt. dt line on my short 3wt. demon rod and it works fine for short in close casts. this was recommended to me by dano and i think skip.

i would try to get a reel that balances the rod. 9 ft rods are going to be a little heavier in the front section so don't go with a light graphite reel. imo.

I don't have any experience with those reels but have heard good things..

There are a lot of good lines to choose from. My personal favorite is wulff triangle taper. If you haven't tried it I suggest you do. I don't own a rod that doesn't cast great with it. I can't say that for many other lines.

Vosseler reels are awesome. Do not have one but have fished them several times. Gonna order an RC once things settle down. Nice thing about them is that there is a local dealer.

2nd the triangle taper line! Use it on a 2wt and a 3wt and love it.

i've been picking up lamsons lately and really like them. the velocity V2 would be a good choice for a 4 wt, that's what i'm putting on my st criox LU. plus lamsons are made in USA.

Anyone know what kind of drags are in the RC and RC-L?

RC's do not have a drag. It is just rim control(palming). There is a small clicker type thing that just prevents free spool. No drag at all, really fun reels.

Ugh...thanks for the information, man. Unfortunately for me, though, that means the search continues...gotta have a drag.

    cold,
why don't you just get an extra spool for your other reel?
If that reel is too light, you can always wind a bit of Rio T-14 on before the backing.
Or just get a Ross Evolution closeout special.

dano, I do have a spare spool for that reel, but after getting a large-arbor for my 1wt (Sage 3100), I'm heavily considering going that route for this rod as well. The RC, obviously, is not LA, but it piqued my interest nonetheless.

I'm definitely not opposed to a Ross, but like I said, I'm also very interested in checking out offerings from our fly flinging friends from across the pond.

Thanks anadromus, I'm currently perusing their site and they are really nice looking reels. The drag mechanism (and even some of the design elements) look somewhat similar to Teton reels, of which I own two and love both. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to do a bit of searching, and if Ryall eventually is what I decide on, I'll PM you.
