proper anchoring

Hey guys, another quick question...for a small jon boat mushroom anchor should a shackle be used to secure the anchor to the rope? thanks

    Chain and shackle is best.

Chain and shackle not need for a mushroom, IMO.  If you are using it in a lake, or slow flowing river, you are counting on the mushroom to get sucked into the muck and sediment to hold you steady.  If you are using a danforth anchor, then a shackle and maybe some chain will help but with a small jon boat, that probably isn't needed.  If you are trying to hold in a swift moving river, the mushroom isn't going to help you much unless it gets jammed up in some rocks and then, you are probably kissing it goodbye anyways.

You'll be good with rope to anchor then.
I have a small jon boat as well & the mushroom holds it good most of the time.
I do have a small danforth in case I need it. Only been deployed a couple times.

If you can attach the rope to the anchor so that it won't come lose then no need for a shackle, I lost an anchor once and thought I had it tied good it seems that while soaking the knot loosens up some. If it were me I'd use a shackle just for that reason...
