Have to be a pretty good friend in the first place to borrow my boat.

Perhaps tell duud your sheet was a mess, and convict the duud after his second offense..... if he is a good friend.

in my opinion the boat should be returned in as good if not better condition than borrowed. I have used my dads boat for years if i once did that or returned it in less than perfect condition he would tell me to take the 12 ft aluminum boat and thats it. if you let a buddy use your gear and he misused it then shame on him. if it were me he would be told exactly what i found wrong with it and told he would be allowed to use it once more and if not returned in perfect condition he would be s. o. o. l. the next time.

My father was a mechanic his whole life and had a sign in his shop that read: There are some things we hold dear in this life, the tools of our trade and the dear little wife, so please don't ask to borrow my tools and I won't ask to borrow your wife! I feel the same way about my boat.

I would let my friend (and son/daughter) use my boat but tell them only if they cleaned it after use and cleaned up their trash, plus fill the tank!
In other words leave it in as good condition or better - always a good rule!

Simple. Nope. Tried it twice and got burnt twice, different guys. One smashed a lower unit and never got it fixed or compensated me. I do however, have a couple buds that could borrow it if they took me with them !! Just the outside chance that something was going to blow anyhow, and then blew on a friend would be a unfortunate scenario. I'd eat it, but the friends would feel like crap.

Yes! I would let my friends borrow my boat. As long as they knew how to use it, and to bring it back the way it was, yes indeed. I would want them to enjoy the satisfaction of fishing as much as I do when I fish. He## yea! If they break something, then they will be expected to fix it, but I won't squabble over a little dirt on my floors, or the gasoline not being the same exact level when I last used it.

IMO...Friends fish with you on YOUR boat, not without you on YOUR boat.....

IMO, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking someone else's boat, nor would I ask...If something happened to passengers or boat...Could be a bad day...

    How close of a friend?

If they are close enough that I would lend them my toothbrush, they might get the boat, maybe not.

I wouldn't say an absolute one way or another... depends on how this person treats their own things?? and how well I truly know them. I am lucky enough to be able to borrow my cousins boat docked down near the Chesapeake bay when we are down visiting (if we don't take our own for some reason) but he knows it is scrubbed and restocked and put away in condition found... I never take his generosity for granted!!!
Basically it would depend on the water wanted to fish, the experience the person has on my boat to learn the ins and outs of it and how responsible I feel the person has shown themselves to be... but having someone ask me who hasn't met all of the above??? friend or family would get the same answer!NO!

I have let friends borrow mine, even let my brother take mine to Canada for a week when I was unable to go.As far as friends not asking, I think that friends would offer. Of course it would be understood that it would be returned in the same or better condition. But I may be naive or lucky that this hasn't backfired on me yet.But I agree that there might be a prob. in case of an accident. Also my boat was only a 14' alum. so I didn't have as much to lose as some of you do.I figured that if I would loan them my truck ,I would do so for a boat. sam

It really depends on the friend.  Before I got my current boat, I borrowed a similar one from a friend for a week long test drive.  He got it back with a full tank of gas, carpets scrubbed and a wash & wax job.  I even installed a compass and got the fish finder working.  It was in better shape than when I picked it up.
