AMSOIL

I recently switched to Amsoil 100% synthetic oil in my Yamaha outboard and and extremly happy.

I won a quart of their lower unit oil at a tournament last year well i just changed the lower unit oil for the first time since putting the new lower unit oil and and it still looks like new.

Anyways the reason i ended up switching from Yamalube to AmsOil is because i could get full synthetic "ashless" oil (no more fouling spark plugs) deliverd directly to my door for less than the cost of regular motor oil.  ooh yeah and hardly smokes either, the smoke that it does put off dosnt make you sick either.

Anyways i have been soo happy with this i thought i would share.

I buy through this guy. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet. Great family guy. He has it to my door in just a couple days.

I'm on my second season of running the gear lube. Might switch from Mobil 1 for the crankcase next season.

I use it in my Jonsered chain saw, power auger, weed wacker, etc. and that stuff is awesome. Never used the outboard or lower unit oils/greases though.

Royal Purple is another one to look into also. A bit more expensive than AMSOIL, but you get what you pay for.

Any special measures that you know of that are required to switch from straight 80-90w to synthetic in the lower unit? I looked at some semi synthetic this year and the salesman told me to drain the lower unit overnight prior to switching over to synthetic, his statement kind of alarmed me, so I went with the standard 80-90w?

nope, drain and fill with synthetic.

i tried a lot of 2-stroke oil brands for my kicker and found castrol 2 stroke full synthetic to smoke/smell the least, but every time the wind blows i threaten to buy a 4-stroke.

Amsoil makes a good product.  There's a couple of types out there so be aware of what you're getting and what you're trying to accomplish.  I used to be a firm believer in using the manufacturer recommended oils, but having used Pennzoil synthetic with zero problems, and for half the price, I'm going to stick with that.

I like adding a splash of sea foam in the tanks from time to time.  Something, be it Ring Free, Quiickleen, or another cleaner helps keep the motors running cleaner and smoother too.

Ran Royal Purple in my last motor. Since installing the new one I've been running Castrol Syntec, so far so good. We used to run AmsOil in our racing bikes, back in the day, with no problems...

Can't blame the motor failure on the oil though, can blame it on the previous owner
