Letort Hopper/Cricket

Been tying these for a buddy. Thought I'd take a break and take a few pics. For a tute - follow the one on Dave's Hopper - leave out the legs, shorter thin wire hook. Great for tyin a dropper off of as they float forever.

Beautiful, neat ties, steely. What kind of hair are you using? Anytime I spin hair it works, but the finished product looks like something from an owl pellet.

Cold- I'm using regular deer body hair and then Coastal for the smaller ones - 16's on down. I know what ya mean about the trimming thing. What helped me is to make sure the underfur is completely combed out and when I started using 14/0 thread and being careful with the tension when flaring the hair - there was much less likelyhood of the thread showing through the flared out ends of the head. And I use a thin new razor blade (shown on the pic) to do all the trimming - no scissors. And actually for these - I don't allow the hair to spin around the shank. Just hold it in place on top and cinch down using two different bunches of hair. The first to create the wing and the second to fill out the head.

Do you use gel spun thread for that type of work? Those are real nice ties.

I don't give a crap if anybody listens to me or not.

Steely34, Thank you for the tute. I have just purchased the correct razor blades and what a different. I have been using larger blades or scissors and could not get it to trim properly, but when I saw the blade in your picture, what a difference.
