Pikie fare

After seeing the fun DT and Rippin had with the pike I figured I better try and tie some up and join in the fun...
Had some rabbit strips hanging for the last month and this is what I come up with so far..
(can I get away with a 6W throwing these?)

Bing - nice job on the strips!!!!! KJ posted a link (or maybe it was Swinger..not sure) on some underwater action/video of spey style flies. Did some searching around on that site and found this video of rabbit strip flies. Man they look good underwater!!! Here's the link:

6wt will work, just open up your casting stroke a little. I used a medium action 9 foot 6 weight for casting clousers and poppers for smallmouth for years, and while a 9 foot 7 or 8 weight would have been "perfect" for tossing the flies with ease, the 6 works just fine. It looks like the bead eyes you're using are the bead chain ones? If you start using big lead, brass, or tungsten eyes they might get to be a bit much for the 6 weight, but I'm sure you'll do fine. I especially like the fly in the 4th pic down, white zonker type fly with a hint of red= awesome!

Nice ties. PM me if you want to fling them at some Pike. I just got the boat ready.I was using an 8 weight. Think I'll downsize to a 7 next time. A 6 should be fine for starting out.

I think they were #2 Aberdeen hooks....

Took the flies out for a little walk around BullDam..
Wind was terrible so about every third cast came right back in my face...
Man do those bunny strips get smaller when wet....It''s a whole different looking fly wet....
I know my casting sure sucks.... Practice, practice, practice....

I'm no expert but when I tie with barbell eyes I place the barbell on the outside of the hookshank (like the fourth pic in your first set) so that the fly rides hook point up instead of facing down and digging into the weeds but I don't know how much of a difference that makes.  Nice looking flies.

You're doing a good job on you're flies for a guy just starting out in fly fishing. You're progression is fun to watch.
