Transducers

Looking for input on transducer style. Going to get a new furuno and have not had any experience with the thru hull transducers.

Are they better, worse, or no different than the externals? Thanks.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I have heard they work better on a glass boat than a metal one. I have also been told it is all in the mounting or "embeding" as it was called. I hate like heck trying something I have never done before. Good luck!

thru hull is by far superior over a transom mount.. down side is that it requires cutting a hole in the hull of the boat.. the upside u will be able to watch gobies blink hehe... u will mark things u would of never saw with transom mount

Curious as to why it is so much better.

Just a few thoughts Transducer selection depends on a lot of variables first if you have an inboard you will need a through hull if you have an i/o and trailer it a lot you should use a transom mount. The reason the through hull is a better picture is that you get smooth bubble free water over the ducer even while running that is if it is installed correcty with a fairing block. Now that was the old days. i would by a new tilt through hull ducer you will need to know the deadrise of your hull before you order it though. It installes by drilling a hole through the hull. That is what i would buy know no matter what kind of drive unit the boat has. If you have any questions give me a call Dan 724 321 6729

clean water a thru hull is clean water a transom mount is in the wake of the boat after the screws or in the draft
