new gun??

hey everybody.. i am looking into buying a new gun maybe a 30-06 or a308 my buddy wants me to hunt P.A. with him next year and i need a gun.. what should i buy looking to spend up to $700 any suggestions?? Remington. savage?

    Highly recommend Winchester Model 70! Excellent safety, relieable in all weather, easy take-down and cleaning, and access to clean firing pin, etc.

    I agree, Model 70 has a nice smooth action if you like a bolt. I would consider the .243, I don't think that there's a better whitetail cartrige out there. Don't get me wrong the .06 and .308 have killed their share as  well, the .243 is just nice to shoot, accurate and does a heck of a job on what ever it hits. I wouldn't be afraid of the Ruger 77 or the Browning A-Bolt either.

    I got a pile of Rem 700,270,308,243,222.Very dependable, they all shoot great and are very ammo friendly.I the hands of a good shot 243 is a great gun,but marginal hits a little iffy,270 is a smack down,your the one buying the gun,but you may want to buy the larger cal.06 or the 308,you can't go wrong with either.Good luck

    Tikka T3 Lite Stainless very nice gun for the $$$ buddy got one this year very sweet gun

    Tikka fan here as well.  The T3 is a sweet rifle with a MOA guarantee.  The barrels come form the same line that goes on Sakos. 
     
    If you can find a Browning A-bolt, not the X-bolt somewhere, great rifles as well for the dollar.

    How bout a nice bolt action 12 ga with a rifled barrel.  You can shoot Hornady SST slugs out to 175-200 yards and you will save yourself some cash.  I bought a 30.06 when I moved here and I have yet to be in a tree stand where I can shoot more then 100 yards.
