new spots

Local conservency bought some property in the altoona area.. allowed the PGC to regulate it.  Open to public hunting this year.   Figured I'd go check it out.  Always good to have too many places to hunt.

Found a nice heavy track.

Went for a walk and found some nice rubs.  Put up some cams to see what was going on.  He's a 10 point with about 3 inch g4's and long main beams.  Pretty nice buck.  Not a great pic.. I had to blow it to get a point count.

The wind has been consistently swirling there.   Got this buck on cam at 5 am, 3 am, and 10:30 pm.   New areas can be tough to learn.  With the track, the rubline, and the pics with time (which is 12 hours off above),  I suspect I know what he's doing, for now.   Probably not a deer I'll hunt, at least in archery.  Could be an interesting spot the first day of rifle.

Nice man, always good to have different spots. 3, 5, and 10, are not prime hunting times though

I've been guilty of hunting too many areas instead of focusing on a few.   Something it works, most of the time, not.

A guy I hunt with hunts every morning.. he doesn't miss one, except during heavy rain.  He hunts one ridge, about 400 yards long.. moving back and forth daily.  It's only about a 75 yard walk from the road, so it's easy accessible.  Arguably the highest pressured ridge I hunt.  He likes the short walks in and out..  some may consider him lazy.  But he says the farther you walk in, the more deer you jump.  There's truth to that.  He kills a 135-140" almost every year in bow season on public land.  I've never met a person that has killed so many book bucks on public property.  It's proof that no skill or luck can replace patience and consistency.

I agree with everything you said in your post above. I am far too excited for Saturday to get here... Still not sure where I'm going, I haven't been out much lost my license at the worst time of the year...

He didn't find a bus stop DD.   You can go 3-4 days without seeing one.   Least I wouldn't consisder that a bus stop.  Brandon, you may get to see the buck above, this year, if that's any hint.
