12 mile creek

I went down to 12 mile just now.  The mouth is totally blocked except for an 18 inch wide one inch deep little ditch going into the lake.  I've never seen it this low.

On a side note, does anyone know who built the fence along the road
blocking all parking by the wall at 12 mile?  Or why?  The only parking now at 12 mile is at the mouth. There is no parking on the road.  There are
2 spaces above rt. 5, and the mouth.  Makes it tough for disabled who used to fish at the wall when fish are in.  Really, about the only spot on the east side they could fish.

Looks like Im gonna need that chainsaw or bolt cutters and hacksaw after all. I can walk but since that IS the only real place for the less fortunate to fish on the east side then I could fix the problem.

Pete , pinner , I could use the help if yinz wanna help me get rid of such problem?

Take some bail money with you.

The area remains open to fishing, However there was a landowner issue with parking. I am trying to remember from the last PSA meeting, what the issue was, vandalism ( quads ), or it was just that they planned to develope ( plant grass, etc ) the area. It could get quite torn up, when wet. Seems to me the Twp owns the property, but don't hold me to it. I will find out at the PSA banquet saturday, and post.

OR ya'all could come to the banquet, and get the info there. As well as good food, a beer or 3, and maybe even a cool prize.

Found this in Harborcrecreek Township newsletter:

T he Harborcreek Township Board of Supervisors has
applied for a $95,000 grant for improvements to
township properties along 12 Mile Creek and Shorewood
Road. This grant program is administered by the PA Fish
& Boat Commission through monies derived from the
“Lake Erie Stamp” fees. This grant is a 50/50 match,
meaning $47,500 will be given to Harborcreek Township
with the township matching with in kind services (labor).
    Improvements Proposed are:
    • Paved parking area at the mouth of 12 Mile Creek
    • Improvements to the wall along the creek to permit
    handicap access

    •
Handicap parking area and access road adjacent to
      the wall

So I guess we paid for it, by we, I mean Harborcreek residents, and fishermen.
I saw no sign of the paved parking lot, and didn't see any entrance to the fence. So, guess we'll see.

It would be really nice if they made an area just for handicapped people.  But if they make easy access then everybody will be borrowing grandmas' blue sticker.

    Slick,

The idea has been bantied about some. I'm not sure of the legalities, logistics, or specific need in doing so. I believe the wall north of the marina entrance is designated a "handicap" access. Like many other such areas, it is open to "able bodied" persons, but they must defer to ( make space for ), special needs individuals if necessary.

Yes, I have seen disabled people there fishing, but they are usually mixed in with like you said, able bodied people....I have seen people in wheelchairs both North and South of the boat launch there at walnut...

I would hope any abled body person would be more than willing to give up their precious spot for a handicapped person. I've seen crazier things in Erie though...

I brought this up to the powers to be at the Meadville meeting about making north of the basin a kids/handicapped area only at least until they close the marina. They said they were very seriously considering this proposal for next year.

I assumed that it meant you were gonna whack KMP with the wrench, like a blackjack.  haha

"A Homewood man led police on an hourlong car chase that ended with a crash injuring three officers.

"The car was driving itself," Wright said. "The car has a GPS. It's a Lincoln Navigator. They drive themselves. I wasn't running nowhere."

From my township newsletter today (like 5mile's report got at too) - the township built the fence and seeded the area by the wall to "improve the natural beuaty of the area" and for use by picknickers.  Fair enough - that area did get really tore up by vehicles and it's not like the walk from the mouth is all that far.  They also plan to pave the parking area at the mouth and improve the handicap access to the wall.  So a work in progress that should improve things for everyone.
