Tree Stand Harness Question

I use a harness at all times when I'm in a tree but what should I use to get up and down ? I use foot pegs and it is almost impossible to use the harness I have to safely get up and down a tree. I get a little nervous at 20ft when I'm not attached to something getting into a stand.

Think I'll take some pics of a harness system in the backyard for yinz fellas.   I've tried multiple times looking for pics on the net.. haven't found anything.    I just pulled a treestand last evening, wish I'd a taken some pics.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

I have eight stands out that use foot pegs of some type and there isn't a good way to quickly hook yourself up to a harness system for them. I take my chances and consider it a partly successful season when it ends with my stands back in the garage and me in one piece. I've been doing it that way since the sixties but it isn't without a bit of risk.

I've done it that way for years too. I've also slipped and had some close calls. I just don't want to chance it anymore.

use 2 cinch ropes around the trunk as you climb the tree.  lock unto 1 as you move the other.

I've thought about that but that would be pretty time consuming. Don't get me wrong, I shouldn't be rushing my own safety but there's gotta be something faster.

Have/do any of you use a retractable lanyard ? If so, where can I get one ?

The only "safe" thing to do would be tying off a rope of suitable size (to support the impact load of you falling) to each treestand location (above the tree stand height) and attach a sliding knot (prusic knot with the loop) to it.  Attach your harness system to it and slide it up with you as you climb.  When using my climber, I attach my hardness to the tree before I start climbing and just slide it up with me but with treestands with foot pegs or lots of Y's in the tree, the pre-installed rope seems like the only really safe option.
