Alaska

Sent home 190#, don't ask what that cost or the cost of the freezer I had to buy was.
Or the mood I was in wiring the plug for the freezer because wife wanted it on wall with no plug in the cellar the day after I made it back jet lag an all.

Yes, one very, very long day.   My daughter and and I caught the ones 90 to 98# between her and me pointing, and some of the fish on the ground.  We did not know what we were doing when it came to how much it would be after cut up.  The captain fillet and threw them in this big plastic wheelbarrow.  I then wheeled it to this freezer place and they vacuum sealed and froze to -40 and mailed overnight. The next day we went back to see how much and tell them when we wanted the to ship it.  My daughter thought the look on my face was real funny when they gave amount and $$  Yeah real funny

I have to agree with Blowchowski . You had a trip of a lifetime PLUS you shared it with family . Your daughter will long remember the special time she spent with Dad and you have fresh fish that you both caught . That was money well spent . How much better can it get ? Good for you Doski !!!

Check the price of Halibut in the store. It'll make you feel better about what you spent. Best tasting fish IMO.

Blowchowski, fish5000 and Eddie yes if your into fishing and want a great trip, look into Alaska.  Now my wife wants to go; so I'm already planning on next year.  Hey ya got to take care of the wife.   If you do plan, then plan on doing it in a motor home and traveling, the state of Alaska is set up for motor home vacations.  We traveled from Anchorage to above the Arctic Circle "yeah ice road trucker, couldn't find Lisa darn it" down to Valdez then over to the Kenai and down the western side of the Kenai Peninsula.  We took around 2000 picture and now I have them edited down to 971.  Alaska is hot in the summer and there is sooo much fishing in the state.  Trip was worth every penny, even for this tightwad.

Pole_doc, lol. Yeah I do that every couple days and try to think of ways I'll need an extra freezer in the future.  Wow halibut is good eating and very expensive.
Someone who posted pictures of Alaska on here before was willing to talk to me for a long time and give great advice on things like motor home rental and places to fish, thanks Dave T. you really did help us. Now it's getting time for some smoked Erie steelhead

Don't listen to them Dave, I might be doing the same thing.  Two of my buddies are talking about going up now and my wife wants to also.  Sooo I'm saving vaca days thinking of the same deal.  By the way Dave I listen to your advice right down to motor home rental place and buying a charcoal grill, bag of potatoes, and onions.  The people my daughter stayed with doing her college thing are real hunters/fishermen and they gave us several # of moose.  I'm going to learn to fly fish just like Doubletaper for next year.  Or learn to fish like this guy.  Sorry for poor photos of bears, trouble with camera; I almost smashed it I was so ****ed off.
This last picture is of my grill. I packed it and brought it home for next year; it will pack without taking much room.

Doski, Gratuluje!  Beautiful trip. Looks like you had a great time fishing. Nice pics and shot of the Grizz. Little brurried but, it still shows the size of the critter. What type of camera were you shooting with? Sorry to hear it didn't do too well..

Flash frozen Fed-Ex'd Halibut from AK is one of the best tasting fish I ever had.  My dad used to go up there and do the same thing you did with the fish. I think it was shipped in 50# boxes for about $190 10-12 years ago. It was a lot of money but worth every bite. The place that vacuum sealed the fillets did a crappy job. About 30% of the fillets were not even vacuum sealed. Hope your's is packed better.

We're planning on doing a trip up there for 2011. Last years planned trip to AK went down the crapper along with the stock market/gas prices....

Thanks Over the Hill the camera is a Cannon Power shot S5IS I have had it for several years and it has gone on many Steelhead Erie trips in cold bad weather and never failed.  I must of did something after first bear shot because it wasn't that bad.  I ended up setting it back to factory setting it was ok.  I even got great pictures of Mt McKinley

Mt McKinley, Wildlife officer told me I was 31 miles from peak. Thought the picture was good. Got a lot of this Mountian, it's something to visit. Flatfish, I checked out your picture, nice, real nice

Doski, That's a pretty good camera. Were you shooting with the telephoto on? According to the specs for that series of camera, the 12X has a 432mm equiv. Shooting at longer distances with the telephoto is subject to vibration. Is it still acting up? Try mounting it on a GOOD solid tripod and take a similar distance shot. I had to adjust a lot I started shooting with a 500mm. Add a 2X converter in and you really need a rock steady mount. I messed up a lot of good shots for the lack of a good rest. Is it possible the IS was turned off for your shots? Also the wrong scene mode? I've done that before. I've left mine on manual settings and grabbed the camera for a quick fast shot and was disappointed.

I enjoyed the pictures. Dziekuje. McKinley's pic. looks huge. I heard many people who visit it never see the summit because of clouds/weather. Keep posting!
