Here's a pic of norm's fly, with tail and hackle to suit:

I'll be sure to take a pic of the next one after I've woven the body, but before the hackle gets palmered, to show the woven body.

Whatever you want to get rid of. ;)

Also, the sooner you guys let me know what colors you want on your fly, the sooner I can tie em up!

OK, can do!

Also, thanks for all the kind words, guys.

For those of you that put up with my horrendous, lumpy creations from the bugger swap last year, hopefully this'll make up for it.

Here's dru's pink fly:

Hot pink marabou tail, woven cream over metallic purple body, and red/pink hackle collar.

It should catch em...and be pretty visible. I'm thinking about running a bugger-nymph tandem in the early fall, and I might use a variation of that one with a PT off its back end.

Also, the buggers I'm tying up are tied on #6 Mustad up-eye salmon/steelhead hooks.

Tied 3 different ones and I like the way my olive and peacock herl bugger looks with gold ribbing. So thats the one Im doing but I have one problem. Help a bit here please. The gold ribbing is mashing down some of the hackle. Im trying my best and since my vise doesnt rotate Im haveing a hard time seeing the other side of the bugger. Should I wrap the ribbing before I wrap the hackle then or will the hackle cover up the ribbing? Should I cut the ribbing step out and just forget about tying it in? Any input is greatfully appreciated as I want these to look good for yinz guys.
reply back or just PM me either or is fine. Thanks in advance.

Ok here is a pic of the fly , 2 pics of same fly just dont know which background would show up better.

I didnt tie in the gold ribbing in this one but it sure adds pop to the fly. As I stated in my previous post help me to tie in the gold ribbing , it really will finish the fly off nice.

also what kind of background would be better to show the fly better or is my lighting all wrong?

Rib over the hackle if youre gonna rib. Wiggle the wire back and forth as you wrap and try to pick the hackle barbs out from underneath the wire. If a few get matted down, no big deal, but if you're gonna rib for the herl, might as well reinforce the hackle too.

GREAT LOOKIN BUGGERS GUYS!!! Man, I missed out on this swap big time!! Deetzy - What I've done in the past and I know what you mean with the ribbing - is wrap the tinsel or ribbing first and then palmer or wrap the hackle forward - following the edge of the tinsel or ribbing with the hackle. I'm sure others have a different way of doing it though. I hope my explaination is good enough.

My big thing with ribbing is that I only do it if I think I'll need it. With most flies, the answer is 'no', prince nymphs and Troth's Caddis being two notable exceptions. With herl, the answer is always 'YES!'

The whole point of ribbing, for me, is to wrap over the hackle stem, to keep fish teeth away. That means wrapping at a different interval than the hackle. Whether you counter-wrap (wrap the hackle back to the bend, then come up through with the wire) or just change the spacing of your wraps (to ensure they cross over the hackle), you'll have to deal with matting down some of the fibers. If you're careful, and 'wiggle' the wire, you give the fibers a chance to get out from underneath the wire's path, and a bodkin can lift any trapped fibers that have yet to be tightly bound down by the wire. Even at that, though, you'll probably end up tying down several fibers. As long as it isnt ridiculous, I dont think the fish will care.
