HOLY SHEEP!!!!!

Whoever doesn't love to catch these hard fighting bruisers on light tackle are INSANE! This was the hardest fighting sheep I've ever witnessed.

Long, fast runs had me convinced it was a laker. When the smallmouth bite is slow (like today), she was a welcome guest aboard my boat.

Nice Mike! Big Sheephead. It is a shame that they have a bad reputation. when you think of it, the guy's that are catch and release should love these fish for their good fight. they almost look like a Redfish and they get ALOT of respect.

My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!

I'd rather catch freshwater drum than most of the other fish found in lake erie. Great fighters.
The only fish I'd rather catch are smallies or sturgeon. Sturgeon being such a rare catch and unbelievable fight would take top honors.

    And why is that??
The couple times I have gone out on the big pond that is what we were told to do with them..
Bounce them off the swimming platform for gull food..

I know they sure are a good fight when perch fishing on the lighter tackle always picked up a few on the headboats..

    Why?
Because they inconvienced you for 30 seconds? That's absolutely rediculous and whoever does that should be ashamed, and never allowed to call himself a sportsman.

Bottom feeding fish are essential to a clean enviroment and should be afforded respect.

Fished the dams on the 3 rivers for about 10 years now....always have a blast with big drums. Sometimes schools of fish only above 5 lbs are hitting cranks and grubs every cast...with the 10 lb fish taking you for a rids. You think you have a large hybrid. Biggest to date is a 29" 13 lb drum that nailed a crankbait that I was reeling with blazing speed. They may be bottom feeders, generally for crayfish, but they will tear up minnows and any lures imitating them. Last year had a 6" creek chub out for flatheads....a 7 lb drum took it instead.

Well said Mike, and great feesh! One of my personal favorites to catch.

I stuck one about that size perchin the other day. Took me 5 minuted just to get him off the bottom, 5 more to get him in. What a blast, a real shoulder breaker!

What a bruiser mike nice catch!!!  Sure do fight good to. like said before on a slow day its nice to know you can find something to give you a ride once in awhile. Usually you can find sheephead anywhere your fishing, they are everywhere. Havent really targeted them ever but have caught them everywhere Ive fished before with the exception of the tribs.

Finally someone agrees about sheeps with me! Those things are fun to catch and keep things interesting. It makes it exciting to whether you got a big bass or a sheep. And to me the gobies have brought a lot of good to the area, they have made a tremendous baitfish to smallmouth largemouths and yes even steelhead eat those things. Theres nothing like getting a couple dozen gobies throw them out there and catch bass and big sheeps non stop. And gobies are a free bait and a great bait for one after another bass fishing

I with you on this one Mike. I don't really like when people kill them for no reason. I don't kill them and release them back to where they belong along with the gobies. My opinion why waste it god put it here for a reason (not sure what reason though) Let the seephead know there safe withme, a whole lot safer than walleye and perch!

Awesome fish Mike! Haven't seen one that big or that clean in a good while.

It's rediculous that people would kill that fish and not to eat it! I guess next time I am fishing my local trout stream and catch the little pain in the butt smallmouths, I'll bash them on a rock for the raccoons to eat. Just kidding! I would never do that! But it is the same logic, right?
