Geez...I'm still waiting for walleye to start and yinz are arleady talkin steelies....There's still way to much lake fishin left for me to worry about when the steel are gonna run....they get there when they get there...Hopefully not till Late September so people aren't getting lines wrapped in props like last year.....speaking of......Boaters have the right of way in the channel....All fisherman must yield to boaters entering and exiting the channel...I think that fishing should not be permitted north of the boat launches until the launches are out of the Marina...Just my opinion...

Jack, If there is water, there will be fish. We will catch them. One hundred twenty four inches on on fly will be tough, especially for me. Those early steeheads are pretty feisty. They do not respect 3X tippet, let alone 4X or less if the water is clear, whatsoever. It will be interesting, if there is water, how many one flies will be orange sucker spawn! As far as predicting early runs, I myself have a feeling that there will be a lot of early fish, but the water will be low and clear, and fishing will be tough.

My prediction is that there will be tons of steelhead caught.  A ton stocked = A ton caught!  Certainly looking forward to it, but theres still many perch, walleye and muskie to be had before then!

My steelhead predictions for the 1st trip of the year....

I'll have to be up and ready to leave at exactly 1am so the group can pick me up at 1:45am...
Halfway up to Erie, stop at a Sheetz where someone will eat a Chilli Dog for breakfast...
Windows will be opened for the rest of the way up....
One of them probably my Uncle will have a jar of power bait
We'll stop at BAC and buy bait...
Then a day of hauling steelies...
Head back home with limits...

My first trip for steel this year:

Probably find myself with a free weekend sometime within the next 5 weeks, and be way too antsy from reading this board, and jump the gun and head up and pound the streams hard for hours and have maybe 1-2 trout to show for it...and be lucky to see 1-2 chromers.

Depressingly high hopes, huh?

If I go myself, though (my main fishing buddy opts out), I'll probably spend more time fishing than anything else: eat while fishing, fish all day, late into night, sleep a few hours, then get up early and fish daybreak, till it warms up, then head home...time well spent if I manage to get even one.

first trip:

the fumes from my liquor breath will steadily get stronger on the ride up... ushering in the head shake and "wow dude, wow," from Loomis.  I will also position myself upstream from him, and pin my way to the tail.  He will cry and whine.

Fly guys will look down upon bait guys. Pinners will look down upon both. None will be remotely impressed with the other's "greatness".

My prediction is I wont be able to fish for chromers unless its my day off from work. Sunday be the only day. I will turn into a weekend warrior fer sher.
Now that the P.O. has made my route longer I will be working from dark to dark. Gonna suck real bad not being able to hit em for an hour after work.
They made my route longer and overburdened. Went from 782 stops to 844 stops. I couldnt even do the 782 in an 8 hour day. I cant wait till winter hits Ill be working from 7 to 7 every day. I am however thankfull I have a job. Feel bad for those who have lost theirs but the brite side is there is always fishing to keep your sanity.

I predict I will catch lots of Big feeshes, I predict people will get aggravated by "crowding" on the streams, I predict someone will cast directly at my float when I land fish beside them and they don't, I predict the ounce of lead on that cast will scare even the most laid back steelbow, I predict I will laugh and move to another spot to catch feesh while people act too proud to take tips, hints, or bait/flies from me. Oh well I predict I will feesh whenever I am not out on the road and I predict I will enjoy every last minute of it.
