Cortland 444 Peach or 444 Sylk have always been great choices for smaller line weights.

I'd say stick with the line to match the rod for now, probably in a WF till you know more about how the rod feels.

I have a 3wt rod with 3wt WF. I like the smoothness very much. I do wonder if 4wt line would give a little more pow though. Mine is a 7.5 ft. Maybe if it were 9ft I'd be tempted to try.

I have a 6'6" GL3 3wt.......Loop CLWC reel and the line I have on it is RIO Classic WF3F..........it can throw a good bunch of line.....I think the color is yellow or chart.........It has held up pretty good and I can throw dries or nymph with it.....the line wasn't overly expensive either

But please do consider how often you are going to fish that particular rig.........Is it worth coughing up 70  bucks for fly line when you are going to use the rod a few times a year??    I fish my 3 wt almost exclusively......I live in Southeastern PA and for most streams.......a 9 or 8.5 foot rod is not needed.....

Stay with a 3. If you feel your casting could be better, or are lacking power, move up to the 4wt. The 4wt line will load the rod more, giving you more stored energy that transfers into the cast.

The 444DT is a great choice though. Proven by the test of time.
