Forrest Wood Cup

As Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the Forrest Wood Cup, I was hoping you would read and consider sending this message to others who might be interested:

Whether you are a die-hard bass fisherman or fisherwoman or looking for a nearby day or weekend fun staycation, you may have heard that the Forrest Wood Cup will be held in Pittsburgh this week.  Did you attend the Bassmaster Classic in 2005?  That was rated by the pros and the fans as the best Bassmaster Classic ever.  It was competitive, tough fishing and the top ten finishers were the top ten ranked in the world at that time.  The crowds were the biggest and the best ever or since.  Now we have the Forrest Wood Cup with a million dollar first prize, 77 anglers, 77 co-anglers, a Family Fun Zone at the Convention Center, weigh-ins at the Mellon arena with giveaways, a concert on Sunday, entertainment and just plain fun.  Thousands are expected at the take-offs near Heinz Field each morning and pros will be there to give pointers and sign autographs.  More pros will be at the Family Fun Zone.  It is a chance to meet Forrest Wood himself, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, Ish Monroe, Mike Iaconelli, Dave Lefebre, Luke Clausen, Takahiro Omori, Stacey King and many more.  Log onto the Forrest Wood Cup homepage for the schedule and a chance to win a black and gold Ranger bass boat.  And it is all free.  I hope to see you this week.

The boundary is lock 6, but the junior tournament is up around there, so that's probably what that was. All the anglers were practicing today so I wouldn't be surprised to see them around.

The jrs tournament is pool 6, the past 2 weeks there have been more $40,000 bass rigs from out of state then you can shake a stick at around the kittaning area. They have been beating it to death. O well atleast there leaving the musky alone i hope...Plus there is a butler boyscout tournament soon? that is gonna be on pools 5,6,7 so there will be more guys fishing the river than normal for awhile.

haha... i didn't get the nod

i just don't like being advertised to...

its shltty to sign up with the sole intent of publicizing a commercial event

and then after the event is over... these goons are gone

never adding to the board or helping members... they are simply here for their own gain

this isn't a grassroots event like the "one fly"... its MAJOR international corporate sponsors

If any of you jags even took the time to read the threads on here instead of spamming your crap all over the boards you'd see that people on here have already been talking about this for a couple weeks now in OT.

If you sign up and your first post is promoting an event like this put your flame suit on. You won't last long.

Thank you for this information.  Actually I had seen it, but we contacted the system administrator and decided on a new post in the interest of getting fresh information out.  You are correct that I just registered to post this information, but I have been a loyal FishErie reader for more than ten years and I check it out everyday.  (So I only show up as "hits")  I am one of several volunteers hoping to again promote bass fishing and Western PA.  We get no personal gain from this event.  Like you, we fish in PA and love it.  I fish Presque Isle approximately twice per month and think it is the greatest bass fishery in the world.  I also fish all around the tri-state area.  I apologize if this information offends you.  We are simply proud of PA and Pittsburgh and want to again impress the country with our outdoors and our outdoorsmen.  If FLW benefits, that is great too, but that is not why I co-chair the Cup Committee or why I was Chairman of the Bassmaster Classic Committee in 2005.  I love it when visitors from Texas, Utah and California tell us how beautiful this area is and how anyone who still calls Pgh the smoky city is wrong and how enthusiastic and gracious are our bass fans.

gotta say when the Bass Masters Classic came I had mixed feelings about how the rivers would look afterwards. since 2005 was an extremely tough year fishing, the weight totals were low and not many people were impressed. however, imo it was an awesome Classic watching the pros fish where us locals fish all the time and having to work for every LEGAL catch. tons of fish caught, just not a lot of LEGAL fish. also lots of OTHER species caught. imo the 3 rivers offer some of the best fishing in the nation. i, personally could care less about bass fishing in general, but the Classic was extremely cool. would love to see a professional walleye tourney. imo the walleye fishing on the rivers is WAYYYYYY better than the bass fishing. not as tough to find legal walleye as bass, but would love to see the walleye pros go at it.

KJ look at the positive nature of post before you just bash them for your first reaction.

I did not know that these events were free with the weigh in.  I will go and watch if our local guy Dave is doing well.

This whole site is a fishusa advertisement that is welcome because they are a good place for their products.

The free FLW info was welcomed by me and my son.

If anyone still has that opinion of Pittsburgh, then we don't want them here anyway. In fact, I don't want anyone from California coming here, they might recognize how miserable their own situation is and want to move here. Thats the last thing we need.

I keep hearing about this Family Fun Zone, but are they going to have vendors selling equipment like they did at the Bassmasters?  I don't want to get down at the convention center just to watch kids go down inflatable slides.  Does anyone know what else they may be having?  Thanks.

As I said on the other thread, thanks for the informative post.  You checked with the powers that be to make sure it was ok before you posted.
Please excuse some of the ignorant people on here.  Some of these guys just like to pad their post count or stir the pot just to get their kicks.  If 1/10th of their posts would be as informative as yours....just think what this site could become...

FYI- If you register to win the bass boat you must be present to win ...... It doesn't tell you until the end . Would like to win it & sell it to upgrade the ole walleye boat. I don't think it would do lake E with 5+knot winds LMAO

Speaking of bass boats on Lake Erie . They should hold it up there one year I'd love to see these guys catching 8lb smallies and lossing thier hats in the 4-6 ftrs . Heres a better scenario how many bass pros get sea sick on national TV?

uuuhm dream catcher they have been fishing Erie for years.

Evers Wins Empire Chase Bassmaster Elite Even on Lake Erie
(The Fishing Wire)- Saving his best for last, Edwin Evers of Talala, Okla., boated the heaviest limit of the tournament, 23 pounds, 14 ounces, of Lake Erie smallmouth bass Sunday, to outlast a hard-charging Kotaro Kiriyama of Moody, Ala., by 4 pounds at the Empire Chase presented by Mahindra Tractors.

Evers, 32, totaled 65 pounds, 7 ounces, over the course of the tournament, which was shortened from four days to three because of inclement weather, to win his first Bassmaster Elite Series event and the $100,000 top prize. With the victory, the four-time BASS winner has totaled more than $1 million in career earnings - the 19th BASS angler to accomplish that feat. Fishing fans can catch all of the on-the-water action from the Empire Chase on The Bassmasters at 9 a.m. ET Saturday, July 28, on ESPN2.

Kiriyama totaled 61 pounds, 7 ounces, of smallmouth and posted the best Elite Series finish of his career. The 36-year-old keyed on areas that were filled with shad, primarily working a worm. He was traveling farther from the launch site than any of the other competitors, trekking almost 60 miles each day.
