Swap
Terrestrial swap anyone? Beetles, ants, hoppers etc... I figure most tyers are tying them now so it would be an appropriate swap. If your interested let me know. If not, no big whoop.

I did some searching, and I think I'm going to try a combination of 2 beetle patterns. Once I give it a try to see if I can handle it, I'll confirm. How many people do we need?

I'll be tying a hi-vis beetle pattern similar to this: But with deer hair legs, and an indicator that wont blend in with every bit of white foam, wood, cottonwood seed, etc. that happens to be drifting by.

I want in. I've been waiting for a swap since I started tying. I'm sure mine won't be pretty but I will try something. What other patterns can you guys think of...maybe a para-ant if drake doesn't do it...or I could try a earplug hopper, althought it would be my first.

How long have you been tying? A para-ant might turn out to be a little tricky if you're not used to that technique. I know it gives me fits at times...

Oh, if you've got the hang of the method, I think the ant would just be a variation. You'd probably be fine.

ORIGINAL: tippecanoe lol now im nervous..... how bout you do the ant and I will do the hopper? Dont be nervous! Its just that I havent been tying long either, and I didnt even attempt the parachute style until I'd been tying avidly for about 9 months. It's one of my favorite dries to fish, though, and I'd look forward to getting a para-ant to use as a proportion model in this swap. I just wanted to make sure you weren't tying for about 6 weeks, and picked the pattern because it looked cool, haha.

lol i know what you are saying, when i first tried it it gave me fits too. too bad it is so effective..... yeah pencil me in for a green earplug hopper. How many do we do? I've never done this before, so let me know. I can take care of distribution if no one else wants to.

I'll take care of the distribution on this one. I can post a step by step with pics for the para ant if one of you guys want to give it a try for the swap. Let's do one fly to each person, since I have a feeling we'll have more people joining. I've decided on the Jap beetle.

Edited my first post in the thread (2nd overall) with the rundown. Haven't done one of these since snow was on the ground and steel filled the tribs!

I'd be interested in how the swap works. I don't tie at the moment but will begin learning this winter. I'd be curious to see what the swap is all about just because I'm into all things fishing...

each ties the amount of flies per tyers in the swap, sends them to one person, each person gets one of each fly, and then sent back out. Simple.
