Ive always heard you cook the carp on a hickory board. Season it with salt and pepper. Throw the carp away and eat the board.

i really hope you werent serious about tilapia being carp in a store, tilapia is like a big panfish they stock them in some florida lakes though i dont think theyre native to this country. i hope you were kidding.  i have considered keeping a small one to smoke but havent done it yet... dont know which end to light....

Taxonomy is not my strong suit but Tilapia are either Cichlids or Centarchids (like bass and panfish)  Definitely not Cyprinids or even closely related.

    the recipe I've heard is:
    1. Fillet
    2. Put in over at 500 degree's on a board
    3. cook for 10-20 hours
    4. Then throw the carp away and eat the board

Very similar to what you heard
